I usually use 2 rifles during the season, the 300RUM in a stand and trade out to a lighter weight -06 for wandering around. Sadly I could never convince any of my kids to be a rifle bearer for me.
My kids are getting to the age that they'll be able to start carting around one of my rifles...probably out deer hunting and have them carry the 243.

I'd buy the new dedicated hunting rifle. I'd feel perfectly comfortable picking up a new rifle, making one range/sight in trip and hunting with it.

But that's me.

Agree with all said here. Short notice I would avoid buying new gear. You'd need time to sight in and such. Use what ya got for now. But when you do decide to get one, Tikka is always a good bet and widely available. 308 or 30-06 are good choices as the caliber debate can go on and on. Try to cut weight where possible.
