Would it be possible to have it a search option, somewhat like Craigslist? A private party/dealer distinction?

I think that would be a fair compromise to both the FFL's and those members who don't wish to wade through new guns to find used ones.

I don't mind if they post some ads especially if they are rare or well priced. If its just standard pricing then please just don't bother posting it. For instance I picked up a threaded bolt action recently from an FFL in the rifle section and was glad to see a cool riffle at a great price. When I see Glocks at the standard $500 or $550 price, its a waste of my time.

Great idea, I bet the new software could somehow differentiate between SV ads and non-SV ads.

How about a No More Than 1 Open ad per user, per category ?
If you want to list multiple items, just clutter up your one ad,
and not the whole board.
This would also stop people from "Forgetting" to close an ad when the item is sold.

I love the site. I surf the vendor ads and wish they would be a bit more listed at the products and services. Easier than a newspaper and I can compare between shops.

The classifieds?.... Private party all the way. I stopped trading on OutdoorsTrader for the listing of FFL and private partys together.

If I wanted to look at a private party and work with an individual, (most of the times these people become friends, shooting buddies, and compete in arms races with you to who has the collest best or awesomeist!) then I come here and look around. Usually I spend hours on NWFA and reading posts and lost in the gun porn. Unless the girl rapes me and I am unable to concentrate, best thing is we surf the gun ads TOGETHER!

Recently the Private vs FFL ad question came up. Any vendor that wants to use the free ads should have a way to differentiate. WE WOULDNT BUY FROM THOSE VENDORS THAT DIDNT HELP NWFA.

We may not be able to help finantually but you know how many word of mouth members have heard and started looking here cause of me and my girl endorsing it?... a few!

So far yeah if a vendor is leeching and using a free service that other vendors pay for, then yes we would like to avoid them. I go to the classifieds jsut to look at vendors and support thier biz. They support NWFA. We support them.

talked a friend into getting on here and he gets a 1911 from a board member, and needs a gunsmith?... Vendor that supports NWFA just got a 1911 to work at the cost of around $800. value knowing this is helping all of us?... priceless

Keep NWFA private party. Supporting vendors have thier own space. Thank all SV for helping make NWFA awesome!

PS if anyone would love to donate financially to NWFA on my behalf I would not complain but there are more and bet.er ways to support than just financially. The day I can afford my ammo bill I think I can be able to afford to help until then hey I am disabled and on a fixed income. Sucks but at lest I can still go shooting!

FFLs should not be allowed to fill the whole first page of a section up, thereby bumping all other ads onto page 2.

I think they should be allowed a few ads, but not all bumped up together.

When I bump my ads, I try to space them out so I don;t hog up all the first page. I don't have a ton of ads though.

Sorry but I have sent more than a few people and have given out his number to more than a few people for having awesome toys for people in need of fun, I want to see more ads from supporting vendors like him in thier threads! I love searching vendors ads as much as private members.

It always surprises me when a group of firearms owners, who hate further regulation, think nothing of regulating somebody else. Gun owners are gun owners, folks! If I need something for my collection, I don't care whose ad I'm looking at. When I'm surfing for that item, it would sure hinder me if FFL holders were not allowed to advertise in the places I frequent.

I vote, an ad is an ad.

WAYNO

On one of the Stereo and Audio discussion forums I hang out on they have come up with an interesting way to help members sell to members. And to raise funds to help operate the site. They have what is called a subcribers section. Within this section hidden to all but those who subcribe to the forum (in this case its $25.00 a year) it includes a special Barter Town forum (where classified ads are posted and you know your buying from another forum supporter), A Back Alley Pub forum (where the discussion is allowed to get a little more off topic) And then they have a section on Car audio and another thats like a Book club (discussing books people have read).

Something similar to that might be able to be created within the present software. Where Joey comes up with 2-3 Forums that can only be accessed via paid subscription. The carrot to get people to pay is the enhanced classifieds and the discussion away from the less dedicated.

I put this out only as an example of what another group of people in a very similar forum has done to 1. increase operating funds. 2. provide those who help with a little bonus.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed that the classifieds section has become a free advertising section for FFLs..or that their ads virtually wipe out the ads of other members..moving them back to page 2 or farther..or if anyone else cares.. Me..personally..I don't like it.. I think if they want the free advertising for their buisness..they should at least become a supporting vendor..and post there..

Another option..and I don't know how difficult it would be..or how much more headache it would be for the site admins...would be to create an FFL section in the classifieds..

No wonder we have some members...looking for ways around the "bumping" rules..when they have to compete for space..with multiple dealer ads..

Just my :s0159:

Ads are not free For FFL's or any other business in fact it is the fees that FFL's pay to place ads that makes NWFA free for you, me and all the other non business advertisers. I personally feel instead pushing them to the side like they are some kind of bother we should thank them for keeping NWFA free for all members to enjoy as without them there honestly would be no NWFA.

I would like to be the first to say thank you to all our Supporting Vendors for helping keep NWFA free and for helping NWFA grow too over 17 thousand members and all the bandwidth that they help pay so that we can all enjoy this community.

Thank You Supporting Vendors and Supporting Members.

I would like to see a deal where Supporting Vendors could only bump to top a few ads per day. 3 ads wouldn't be very noticeable but more than that and it really upsets the people that had to wait 7 days only to have their ad bumped of page one hours after they bumped it to the top.

3 ads per day still gives an FFL a chance to bump 21 items in a week and very few FFL's have that many items for sale.

I can sympathize with the general members as every time a see a bunch of ads in a row by one private or business member I cringe knowing I can count on hearing members frustration with this practice soon after.

BTW, this subject has been discussed for some time and is still being discussed in the Mod section.

I would also like to make sure and let the members know that Supporting Vendors get no special dispensation to break the rules and are treated the same as any member when they do.

I like this. Alternatively, or in conjunction with this, if a bumped ad doesn't stay on the first page for a set time (say 8 hours minimum?) the seller is allowed to bump it again.

a lot of the ffl's are regular joes working out of their house, making ends meet. i dont mind the local business putting up adds. it is probably a good idea that they dont plaster the entire page with a huge inventory. just a few of the really good deals.

ffl's donate money to the site to become supporting vendors. they have just as much right to be in the general classifieds. especially if they are selling big lots of s&w 4006 pistols with nite sights and 4 mags for $330!
