So I have a question for everyone. I live in Oregon and don't know every gun law here so that's why I'm asking.

I would like to take my shotguns barrel down to 18 1/5 inches and then hawg leg the buttstock.

(I'd make it look nice)

I know the legal barrel length for a shotgun barrel is 18inches and I think the overall length is 26inches.

Is there anything else I should know? As far as I can tell it's completely legal.

It's a Savage Arms Stevens Model 94, break barrel 20Gauge, single shot. Not sure if any of that matters in the legality question.

I also want to re-stain the wood, any tips on how to do this?

Just make sure you measure the 18.5" from the end of the chamber and not the overall length. As far as refinishing the stock Bimart I believe has kits available from Birchwood Casey still.

I didn't think single shot, break barrels had chambers. Could you explain?
Is it 18.5 from the bulge in the barrel where the round goes?

The technical way of measuring is from the bolt face to the end of the barrel.

So you close the bolt, stick a rod down, and measure.

I had an old Stevens Savage 311 20 Gauge SxS

Rusty and pitted all over the barrel - it was just sitting in a closet.

Stocks were not the greatest either - pretty much no collector value at all.

I figured I'd make it into a HD weapon

And yes - that IS a Picatinny rail on the front

Chopped the fore-end, chopped the butt-stock,
Did the best I could with steel-wool on the entire barrel

Barrel is 19" (to be more than just-legal) - overall is 28" (again, more than legal)

Total cost of modification - about $30 - not too bad - and 1/2 day for mods
