So a bunch of college kids decide to duke it out in the dorm parking lot @1:00 AM and someone takes it too far and shoots. One gets killed and 3 wounded.
But the guy is in custody and no mention of charges filed.

For all we know it was a drunken brawl and the kid will claim self defense because he was in the middle of a fight. If it had happened a half hour earlier they may have been in a bar parking lot.

But by gawd the media picks it up and runs with it, claiming it's another "school shooting."

The frat dorm at NAU where this happened has been a hotbed of drug dealing forever. A few years back somebody lit up the whole front of Delta Chi house in a drive-by, but no one was hit.

This looks like a garden-variety crime, by US standards. It just happened to occur near campus.

the thing is, we have about 10,000 per year. That amounts to an average of 30 per day. Local news report about 3 a day, national news report 1 or 2 a day. 25 do not get reported on nationally. The prez would be very busy flying around and speaking to each of the families.
