Probably the first sign was when S&W bought out Battenfeld (Frankford reloading, Caldwell range gear, Wheeler tools).

Rest of the Story: S&W Firearms itself is not changing names, it's the parent SWHC (Smith & Wesson Holding Co.)

Now everyone will want one with the original logo. Sales boom.

But ?

Use an unknown name to sell firearms ? Real smart. Do politicians own this company ?

Could have went with wesandsmithon and called it a day, or drink a bottle of whiskey and talk about your Wesandsmithon.

New Coke was a winner too. Lesson: don't mess with iconic American brands. People get personally invested. Could be worse, though: Smith could be sold to China. Alibaba & Wesson kinda has a nice ring to it.

So American Outdoors is a holding company with several S&W owned companies under it's umbrella.
At least it looks like most of the companies are firearms related. Might be a better deal than
the Bangor Punta era for S&W? Or the current Cerberus management for Remington/Marlin?

Anybody remember the AMF Voit era at Harley Davidson?

Think about this, they are slowly removing the S&W logo, take the Shield .45 and the M&P 2.0 line... The S&W logo has been replaced on the grip with the M&P logo. I predict next time the slides get reworked the same swap will occur...

Sad that we're so afraid of these great American Arms Manfaxturing institutions, used to be there was pride in lineage. Appearantly not anymore...

Perhaps they should just go with M$P (not a mistype) as the new logo...
