So my son and his friend (16 & 17) want to do a solo overnight camping/fishing trip to a fairly remote spot in Lewis County,

Both of them have their heads on straight, but I dont leave my cave without my club and dont like the idea of them out there without anything.

Pretty sure firearms are off the table

How about open carry fixed blade knives? Pepper spray even?

Pom pepper spray is so tiny they can take anywhere. I have in my pocket all the time. Good tool to have in the tool box for anyone Imo.

Bushman type knife can be an axe, spear, machete, digging tool, whatever and has fire strarter on the sheath $13-$18 on sale.

Don't know current wa laws but we used to go to the woods on our bmx bikes with 10/22 on the handlebars as kids for hunting or target shooting.
