this happened in July 2023, but a law suit was just filed
Oregon Live posted still shots from the Hospital security cameras
the guy was able to walk into the maternity ward with a Mossberg Shockwave in a duffel bag
told the staff not to touch his baby son
unbelievably, the Hospital told their security guard to escort the man out, but didn't tell the guard the visitor was armed

today you can't get into a legacy Hospital with a set of keys in your pocket

You can if you don't go thru the front entrance as of 8 weeks ago.

I stripped all of my knives and pistol and left them in the car, crossed the sky bridge because I was slightly lost and ended up in the hospital with no ID badge that my mom and brother got when they went thru the check point.

Not one person asked me why I didn't have a badge.

If they don't have full building security then I don't like not being armed and avoid it at all costs.

Side note - when my kid was born they kept wanting to take her to get weighed or this and that. Always told me they would be right back. I said bullbubblegum, and that kid never left my sight once until we went home with her.

I know MOST staff are good people but just like people anywhere, there are bad eggs and I wasn't about to chance some delusional person trying to take my kid.

I don't know the whole situation and a shotgun seems extreme though.

Good Sam isn't the only campus with holes in security. When they "ask" you to use the main screened entrances its like playing liars poker.

LEGACY IS THE LOW END OF HOSPITAL CARE BECAUSE OF THEIR OPERATING COSTS AND DIFFICULTY PRODUCING INCOME; IN MANY CASES THEY HIRE LOW END SECURITY AND IT SHOWS. THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THE VERY POOR JUDGEMENT OF LEGACY SECURITY IMPOSING THEM SELVES ON CITIZENS?

That's so dumb. The intent of rigorous security controls like walk-through metal detectors is to create a sterile environment in which all entrants have been cleared. Doing that requires screening to take place at ALL public entrances. Due diligence would also dictate having some screening capability at staff entrances as well. If they're only screening at one entrance, they might as well not be screening at all.

I worked in Hospitals for 50 years, worked in every hospital in the Portland/Vancouver area
there is always way to get in if your persistent
including standing by the employee entrance in a scrub shirt with a radiation badge on your collar, with a Starbucks in your hand waiting for an employee to open the door to leave

I kept my company ID in a luggage tag holder around my neck, turn it backwards and no one questions you

Legacy was purchased by OHSU earlier this year
they will become an Oregon State run hospital system
your tax dollars at work

Smart, I did the same thing with my kids (long ago), first thing, I looked for a mole or an identifying mark, then escorted the nurse wherever they went with the baby. I wasn't thinking of someone stealing my baby as much as I was mixing them up, different times, I'm just a tad paranoid when it comes to my kids. :s0114:

There are definitely ways to bypass security. If I HAVE to go through a metal detector there are other weapons I will carry on my person that don't set off the alarm.

Oh great. Every single clinic that I used to use that was purchased by OHSU, the quality of service went down precipitously.

on the other hand, you could be under a Canadian Socialized Medicine system
I received a new knee, fused spine, hand reconstructive surgery and Inogen portable breather under my Healthcare
if I lived in Canada, I'd get a wheel chair, a wrist brace and an oxygen tank

Nah, in Canada now, you wouldn't get anything but their offer of an easy, pain free death.
Regardless, twenty years ago, my two children with health issues received excellent care through Emmanuel and OHSU.
While I haven't been to Emmanuel in a decade, my wife went to OHSU exclusively, and their care was mediocre at best. They're about the money, and it shows.

Like a rubber or plastic handled ceramic fixed blade knife…
Something like that.... G10. Flashlight, TQ, Quikclot always go with me. You'll get really funny looks when you drop all that (Minus the G10 object) in the bin when going through the metal detectors. Haha. Last show I went to at the Moda Center the lady wanding me was like "I'm guessing you normally carry a gun too...." with a nasty look on her face. I replied, "Everywhere I go." with a smile on my face.
