I have had this die for my 280 a long time. I had a 725 280 long ago. Now I have a 721 in 280 barreled by Larry Brace.
This die has the extra piece on the side. It fits inside, but I fail to see it's purpose.
What is it?

One note on the two small seaters in the bottom picture.

The threaded screws on top and the inside sleeve are ALL interchangeable between each smaller die there and also with the newer one pictured at the top. .

Could that insert be used as an alignment tool when starting the bullet, then removed to finish seating?

(I'm clueless, but it's a wild guess)

Picture shows approximate position at the top of the press stroke.

Only thing I can think of is the longer insert/guide is for a view inside when loading the bullet conventionally from the bottom. But why, when you can side load through the window with the shorter insert.

The long insert has maybe a millimetre of up and down movement IMG_0399.JPG inside the die body
