Excellent points, I plagiarized most of it and added some changes. Send it off to the legislators

I am writing to let you know that I absolutely object to the bill you have proposed.

Your bill simply tramples on the rights of all citizens, Imagine needing a permit to exercise any other constitutional right.
It is the modern equivalent of poll testing and taxes.

It would be delusional to think that any criminal will limit the size of a magazine, as evidenced by California's ban that has not stopped any shooter from obtaining and using standard capacity magazines in the perpetration of their crimes. Instead the general public will only be more helpless when the insane unleash their evil on the public.

Your view of the criminal mind shows complete ignorance.

Of course the issue of ammunition limitations and background checks once again illustrates that competency is not in the job description of state legislator. Only the law abiding would follow such an absurd rule, any criminal and quite a large number of ordinary law abiding citizens will simply skirt the law.
Just watch the mortars and fireworks in downtown Portland on any Fourth of July, banned (but far from rare.)

Any person intent on robbery, rape, murder etc will be the last to honor this misdemeanor. How many paragraphs does the first Amendment allow per month, or is it a spoken word count? It is apparent that you have no respect for our civil rights, or the safety of the citizens.

How I store my constitutionally owned private property is none of the governments business, that's one reason why you need a search warrant to enter my home.

We already have laws on the books that address negligence, which should be enforced when a person is negligent with any dangerous item. Are you going to introduce legislation holding people responsible for safe kitchen knife storage, should they be locked in a safe until the steak is cooked?
Will I be required to call in a police report when I can't find the carving knife at thanksgiving dinner?

Lots of people get stabbed and are held up at knifepoint each year. Should I have to contact the sheriff for my knife buying permit and wait a minimum of 14 days after a second background check to get a new carver in time for Christmas. Prima facie absurdity.

In conclusion, I am aware that the end goal of people who propose such utterly dumb and unconstitutional legislation is the total abolition of the second amendment and that my letter will fall on deaf ears, at least I still don't have to have a permit to write it.

I will work as hard as possible to prevent tyrants from continuing to hold office and weakening any of our civil rights.

but this is the bill the students wanted to put in front of the Legislature."

I guess we know who is running things. I wasn't aware that in the last election we voted for abdication of the legislature.

Small world. I too was 19D when I first joined (1983). When I re-enlisted, went 05D (radio stuff), since I liked being indoors better. :)

Wow, 1966. Same year I was born. :s0014:

I wanted Rotary Wing so that was the plan. I even believed the recruiter that it would be a total of 3 yrs,
but had to go thru OCS rather than the WO program at Ft Rucker, and I liked the Signal Corps brass,
because it looked Kool and me Pops was also, so I signed up for
36K Tactical Wire Operations Specialist and got to visit Leonard Wood in the winter,
and climb telephone poles...

Went Armor instead.

I'll Probly get busted for Hi-Jacking, so back on topic...:eek::rolleyes:

This SB501 should be laughed out, but those in power will try anything...
"BY CONSTANT REPETITION THE BIG LIE CAN BE MADE BELIEVABLE...."
and there are gullible people who do vote THEM into Office.....
Yet THEY STILL SWEAR AN OATH!!!!

And how does the vote REALLY get Counted?

IF IT gets out fer an actual vote, and THEY put it in place,
then methinks that LEOs aren't gonna want to be such lackeys and stooges......
and the politicians know this...

But it will open another door, and "CHIP AWAY, CHIP AWAY..."

So is it time to sell ammo that has been sitting?

Or buy more before a "banic" happens?

Some folks might move to Idaho...:)

IMO a bit of ranting on here is fairly harmless. I've yet to see members words in print out in the world.

As far as being divided... if gun owners don't stand against efforts to nullify the 2A, who will?

"Why can't we all just get along" ... because it's not human nature and never has been. Rights must be fought for against those who would step all over such. It's a perpetual battle. Why can't "they" get along with "us"? Most gun owners just want to be left alone.

In abt 1872 Congress passed an UNLAWFUL ACT creating a CORPORATION to be Gvmnt fer Wa DC.
It's official name is;
"THE UNITED STATES [INC.]" [note all upper case letters]:s0087:
IT'S SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND IS THE U.C.C.

maybe look into UCC 1-207 [now moved to section 308:D]

it has to do w/ securing one's US Constitutionally secured RIGHTS,
pertaining to HOW we have Voluntarily Exchanged them for "LICENSED PRIVILEGES"

like getting married, operating a motor vehicle upon the king's hiways, buying a firearm,
and soon to be taking a pea...:(

The RATIFIED 10 Articles, AKA the BOR, is there for we the people ALONE..

that once they have sufficiently EXCEEDED THEIR AUTHORITY AND
VIOLATED OUR RIGHTS,
and we have exhausted OUR REMEDY AT LAW,

WE GET TO DRAW THE LINE IN THE SAND!!!!!

Nowhere in Constitutional Gvmnt do THEY have Lawful Authority to
EVEN TELL US WHAT ANY ONE OF THE BoR MEANS....

It is going to take a go fund me site, with hundreds or millions of dollars, lawsuits, etc.
, to fend the liberal Oregon legislature.

With numerous new taxation bills, including bills where taxpayers have voted NO on new taxes: These two issues may galvanize recalls.

Thoughts?

Which bills would those be? Every tax bill on the ballot last year that would have limited taxation, was voted down by the ignorant Oregon voter. They seem to love taxation,,,

And what exactly is this holding hands with unity hugs supposed to do?
Since when do Americans meet to rally for thier civil rights...............its called a protest.
We are never ever going to get it are we......we are so screwed. People do not even know what they are fighting for.
Maybe Elvis will show up, and we can listen to everyone motivate people.......................thats not how.
Gees even Hogg Boy, knows how to get things done. Oregon I think deserves to lose rights we
simply do not take any of this serious. You rally for School funding, you rally for lower taxes.
How stupid would it be if people had a rally for their First Amendment rights? Wede all laugh like they lost their minds.
You losing a Civil Right, means you know longer matter if they take it from you.

Well, maybe, it will give some of us a chance to make connections, which could maybe lead to some viable courses of action that we do not connect with behind our keyboards. Hell, it's all we got right now. If only 50-70 show up, like the one last May, we may just as well stock up on Vaseline.

SB 501 is the REAL THING. Communism and Tyranny are upon our doorstep.

I went to the 2A rally in Salem last time, too - my wife and I - and had I known so many people brought their kids, I'd have too!

My 6 y/o has school, but my 5y/o is off on Tuesday, so she's coming along. It's become incredibly important to me as a father to expose my girls to other pro-2A/pro-Constitution people. While there certainly exist scumbags in all circles, 2A people are usually GOOD people, w/ good values and placing a high value on family and trust.

Anyway, I'm simultaneously hyped up excited, but also a little....fearful, I guess? I'm worried not as many 2A people will make it a priority. I'm not positive I can stay all 3 hours, but you bet your bubblegum I'll be there and for most of that time, too.

I'm also a bit saddened (yes, saddened) that a few of you are not coming; either because you WON'T make it a priority, or because you're disillusioned w/ the low turnouts and near constant battles we endure year after year.

I ask you w/ little faith to please COME ANYWAY. It certainly won't hurt to have another pro-2A body to join the horde. Every last one of us counts.

Ok, so every time the left tries to push through a bill that further erodes the right of a minority, in this case gun owners, we need to punch back with some proposed laws that will give liberals a taste of their own medicine.

1.) A law to ban any abortion past the first trimester, with a second provision to limit the amount of abortions a woman can have in her lifetime

2.) A law to limit the amount of cannabis products an individual can purchase in a 30 day period.

3.) A law requiring the LGBT community to register as such and pass a test and carry an ID card if they want to use public restrooms that are designated for use by a gender other than the one they were born as.

The more ridiculous laws we can come up with the better. The state legislative body is there to come up with new laws, apparently they are running out of ideas so we need to help them out, its our public duty.

Promote these as "common sense" laws that promote "public safety", show that they are "our values" and "who we are".

Does anybody w/ more experience w/ these early-on legislative SBs know the likelihood of this passing (SB501) as currently written?

It seems a blatent violation of the 2nd Amendment AND Oregon's own right to keep/bear law.

Is this likely to be edited in the future if it survives to include a grandfather clause for magazines and perhaps an increase to a number higher than 5.

Do 5 round AR mags exist? How the hell can a Glock 19 be made to comply?

Are these people aware of how absurd this legislation really is?

I've invested a lot of money - as have many of us - into standard-capacity AR mags, and I'm not sure how theh can legally violate both the Takings Clause and Ex Post Facto laws w/ this atrocious SB.

Anyway - if anybody w/ more experience w/ this stuff can answer my questions, I sure appreciate your help.

Perhaps I can answer this or help.

First, with a Dem majority nearly anything can pass by, SB941 as and example is unconstitutional, has resulted in zero convictions.
The language its self is seldom the issue, as if it is unconstitutional they will pass it anyways. Thats why Rallies are useless. The Left is not listening, doesn't care.
The capacity issue is the game they want you to look at, as basically every firearm that is semi-auto has more then 5rds other then some hunting rifles.
Now with a breath taken, it wont pass as many of those Senators own firearms, and there is no exclusion built in, so that means everyone, including off duty Leos. Its good news and bad, they went so far that it wont pass and is so wide its unenforceable.
Of course the NRA and OFF no it has no chance in passing, but when it doesn't pass they will say its a win. A few laws come up so over the top even the Dems no its not possible. Is there a chance? Yes, but its very unlikely.
What is needed is protest, but wont happen as gun owners are just to passive to know what losing a civil right means.
It not a joke at all, and is something very few if any unerstand and are even taking serious.

In 2019 we will have laws that may pass that are going after firearm types and pass or fail they are being considered, because
Dems think why not, Oregon firearm owners are weak and it shows. So they are going ti hit hard with the election momentum.

Remind me - what again is the exact reason for such a harsh anti-gun/anti-gunner push? When was the last time recently that we've had any issue that would warrant such an absurdly unnecessary set of punishments for gunners?

We all recall the college shooting - but other than that...I'm drawing a blank. Violent criminal pricks are gonna be violent criminal pricks, regardless of what Salem does. Why punish us as law-abiding Oregonians?
BECAUSE THEEY CAN

Wow my fingers hurt from typing so much - just sent off a nice, well written letter to those 2 listed. Hope they read it. I prefaced the letter by saying "they likely wouldn't take the time to read it through" just to hopefully motivate them to want to read all of it...

Gives me an idea. Preface it with BS material that they would want to hear and read only to open the body and find its actually a big F'U letter on why its unjust.

Start with something like how you want to see a new tax on something or a social issue you think needs amended, you know just watch CNN or other lefty leaning outlets and make a sort of click bait letter. Imagine, someone is going to be all excited foaming at the mouth only to be let down once they see the actual content haha.

I'll just say I'm a progressive liberal and so are all my friends but we own semiautomatic firearms and don't want our rights infringed. :D Do you think that might work? I might even say I voted for them when I quite clearly didn't.

Dont forget to mention your friends in boulder colorado and NJ who feel the same way. Completely mess with them from the inside out.
