So with the ammo/reloading component crunch I have been tinkering with and shooting several single shots lately. This one will be a handy little deer, coyote general purpose critter getter.

It started out life as a 14" CVA pistol in 6.5 Needmoor. My vision was slightly different. I ordered a stock and a dead air muzzle device. The dead air muzzle device pin and weld was straight forward and gives me a 16.25" barrel. The stock fitting was a bit harder as the angle of the threaded boss of the pistol action vs rifle is quite different. I milled out the stock to adapt and with some gorilla epoxy and a different jesus bolt, I think it is good to go. With 120-130 grain projectiles I should clock somewhere around 2500 fps, give or take. This should give almost a 400 yard range for deer sized critters which is longer than 98% of shots I take on game. Full up with leupy 3-9 and bipod it scales right at 7.5 lbs. This is light enough to be handy and heavy enough to not be a feather in the wind. I will report back on accuracy and velocity after a range session.

I've hunted at times over the years with with Ruger #1's. It's been awhile. The OP's post brought back many good memories.
Hunting with a single shot is somewhat akin to the feelings I got as a kid when we played Army out around the out buildings.
I was doing something slightly old timey and putting my imagination to work. And oh yeah, they were open sighted.

Today I took the little guy to the range and initial results are encouraging. I shot 2 factory loads and did a small ladder with two different powders and 2 different bullets. All bullets were between 120gr and 129gr and velocities averaged between 2440 and 2600fps out of this short spout. Best 5 shot group of the day went to one of my 123gr sst handloads at 2510fps average velocity. 5 shots went into .750". I will tweak this load and explore the accuracy and velocity potential but at face value this load already is close to meeting my expectations in this compact platform.

Then you must NEVER sell that gun.
That is some amazing accuracy, especially considering you have to break position after each shot, in order to reload.
I think that gun will end up becoming one of your favourites.

Almost every cva product I have shot in the last several years has been quite accurate. That is probably why I own 4 now. The bergara barrels and nice clean triggers out of the box help in the pursuit of accuracy. This one is showing enough potential that I peeled of the 3-9x scope and put on a brighter 4-12x vortex on it for some more testing.

This little project has shown plenty of accuracy to warrant sinking a bit more time and money into. I asked on an earlier thread if anybody had used a Lage mfg. folding stock. I got no replies so I decided to be a guinea pig for you unkept beasts! By ordering a farrow tech pistol grip with a pic rail on the back, I was able to mount the Lage folding stock and un-bubba the build a bit compared to my home made adapted conventional stock. The farrowtech pistol grip could fit the lines of the cva a bit better but other than that it is a decent product from a small 3d printer guy. The Lage stock has no shortcomings that I can see and is a great piece of kit!

Thread reminds me of a few single shot projects I'be done in the past. One of which I still own, guess which one! Sort of miss the AAC collaboration one.
