Saw this picture of a Chinese soldier near one of the re-education camps they have for Muslim Uighers.

At first I thought it was a rifle but then noticed it was maybe 6 feet long. Question for you edge weapons guys: is it a modern day spear? Issued to guards in China? Why the upper cylindrical part. I tried googling it and could not find anything like it. If it is steel it would probably be heavy unless its thin walled. Maybe it's to hold you up when you fall asleep at post.
