I just purchased a Savage A17 that I topped with a BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 scope. The main reason for this post is that it looks like the biggest issue with these things is/was the magazine falling out (probably more user error) and it looks like Savage may have addressed this with a redesigned magazine catch. I have not had a chance to shoot mine yet, but I can say that the mags, new and old, do simply snap in place. I could not find anything on this here and do not know when they did it, so I posted it.

Interesting. Not sure why the change.
I never had trouble taking mags in or out or falling out myself. But had many feed issues with failure to pick up rounds from a mag after an empty was ejected. Maybe this new design helps with feed issues? I should just call Savage and ask. I switched from an A17 to the B17.
Glad I did.
Hope your new rifle is a shooter!
