Savage 64Fxp 22 LR opinions needed

looking into one of these for my younger brothers first gun, I've heard good things about Savage in general, but nothing about this particular rifle. It's on sale at Big 5 for $139.99 which is my exact price range (wish I had more to spend on the guy) It also comes with a scope and mount. Some opinions please!

I haven't owned one. but from what i read they are a good rifle. I have a savage 17hmr that i love. it is a great squirrel gun.

If $140 is your max, then i would go with the savage. If you can swing a few more dollars, Bi-marts in the portland area have 10/22s on sale for $177 right now. The 10/22 would be a better gun in the long run for your brother.

So if $140 (150) after background is max get the savage, but if you can swing $190, it is a better rifle and could be upgraded for future birthdays.
