I just got this email from the administration...

Unfortunately, we still have no right to protect ourselves...

Three students were harassed by two boys on bicycles? In the '70s the students would have kicked their butts!

Criminals everywhere cower at the thought of their victims carrying a charged cell phone!

(my eyes are about to roll out of my head)

    Watch yourself out there ZachS

Why don't you keep that in mind next time you're staring down the barrel of a gun?

I've had guns drawn on me twice. Once in Denver (misunderstanding with Lakewood, CO police, don't ask) and the other was on the campus of Oregon State University. Don't tell me that criminals don't know that everyone on campuses are unarmed. I guess until more people get shot in gun-free zones, politicians will continue to ignore the problem...

Eh, Eugene/Springfield's tweaked-out hordes are usually run off campus very quickly by security. And even though I don't look like a bouncer or anything, I'm definitely the kind of guy that the average hooligan will pass over for an easier target - especially in such a target-rich environment.

When that happens to me in the '70s, I will take your advice.

I sometimes refer to my S&W MP .40c as a 'man made barrier'.

    7. Walk with confidence and assertion, wearing comfortable clothes so you can run if necessary.

I guess if you had cc that would give you some confidence.
How can you out run a bullet?

People follow the no CC rule? I carry all the time to a certain Portland area public college. As long as no one sees it, who cares?

What advise did I give you? I simply implied that its much easier to say we'd handle things one way until the situation arises and we're forced to confront it.

What do you mean you don't have any rights to protect yourself ZachS? You have the right to go and get a permit and conceal carry (assuming your are not a criminal and are not a nut case lol). It is not illegal unless you get caught my friend lol if no one cares about you and you don't care if you live or die then don't carry....... wait to see if it's a nice bad guy or hope a cop or something comes by......... maybe someone licensed to carry concealed firearm, who is packing a firearm..... who is willing to save you hahahahahah or be steven seagal lol

Unfortunately, my future career could be at stake if I were to get caught.

I'm a law student, and although I doubt the state bar association would deny my application to practice for a matter like this, it certainly could.

Considering that a few hundred thousand students have passed through the U of O campus over the years without being murdered, I'm willing to take my chances and abide by the school's rules - even though they may run afoul of the law.
