FWIW: I'd run this over to the Smith and Wesson Forum. I know there are a couple of Collectors who specialize in LEO Firearms.:)
 
In another life I was Issued one of the earlier Model 10 with the 4" HB but decided to carry my personal Model 19-2 with the 2-1/2" Barrel. I still had to Qualify with both but that was always easy to do.:)
