I picked up a S&W mod 34-1 22 cal. 2" and i'm having a hard time finding info on it. I've see an article that says the serial # on the 34-1 starts at 70000 but the serial # on mine is an m followed by 2 digits(Mxx). Does anybody have any info on these? Thanks

The M34-1 production started in 1960 at serial # 70000, continued until 1988 when the -2 was released.

Nothing in my S&W book on that. Possible renumber by a police dept? I believe prior to 1968 you could legally change or remove serial #'s.

I know that this is a Very old Thread but I'm hoping the OP still gets the message. Call Smith and Wesson on their "1-800-331-0852" and they'll supply you with the month and year the gun left the Factory.:)
