Poor Arlo, finally retired in 2020 😢

Not exactly, just not touring anymore. For his website...

2020 began like most other years with tours scheduled as usual. It all came to a screeching halt after their performance at The Caverns, in Pelham, TN. Venues began closing down due to the coronavirus, and Guthrie (along with almost all other performers began postponing, rescheduling or cancelling gigs). During the lockdown Guthrie teamed up virtually with Jim Wilson – A collaboration that resulted in the recording of the old Stephen Foster song Hard Times Come Again No More, along with an amazing video. The song and video were released to the public July 31, 2020.

On October 19, 2020 Arlo announced that he would no longer be touring, preferring to work from home on various projects. All previously scheduled events had been cancelled, and he was not accepting any future tour dates, in effect bringing a lifetime as a road warrior to a conclusion.

Since the first time he performed in public in 1961 at the age of 13, and after almost 60 years of shows, Arlo Guthrie, now in his 70s, has become an American elder—a keeper of the flame.

Two things.
People that do these stunts are why I don't want to live in populated areas, but I would fight to protect your right to do it.

This guy who pointed firearms should be in jail.
Unless he was in some way threatened or felt his immediate person or property was at some kind of risk.

You have used the legal terminology "Brandishing" several times in this thread. Stop playing online criminal law expert by Googling Oregon Revised Statutes.
Brandishing is not strictly a legal term, but it can be: Go ahead and look it up. Maybe you can find it on Google. 🤣

I am not using it as a legal term I never claimed it was present in Oregon statutes as you falsely assert.

And I've already told you once to stop deploying your pallid fallacies: I am not the topic of this thread. The fact that you cannot factually rebut my argument without trying to discredit me with facile ad hominems betrays the weakness of yours. I will not tell you again.

Thanks. You win.

I had not paid attention to this thread till tonight. Noticed it seemed to be going on forever and had to look. Of course NO responsible person would condone what the gun guy did. The riders? IMHO just another example of the kids who never grew up and need attention. Was what they were doing legal? Probably. Was it using even a grain of consideration to the people ? No. Why ride like that in alleys other that to try to get a reaction and attention? Wife and I like to go to the big water on the coast now and then. Almost every time we find a spot WAYYYY away from anyone else and set up to relax. Almost ever time we move at least one time. We will be there enjoying the day, here come a car load or two, set up a few yards away and out comes the huge speakers to blast what they call music. Miles of beach but they just have to do it by us. We of course just toss everything back in the car and move. The people who do this are easy to see wanting someone to pay attention to them. Reminds me of that Top Cop down south while back. Uber driver killed some meth addled kook who ran him down thinking his girl was in the Urber when she was not and got shot. The Top Cop at the news conference kept saying something along the lines of people need to learn to leave others alone. Wise words. Not that I am some saint but, I work nights, sleep days. Does this mean on my nights off when I am awake at 2:00 am I should go out and run my lawn mower because I am up now? Or run it at 6:30 am on Sunday because I just got home and it would be great to get it done? I don't do this because I care about "others". Having been here years now when neighbors see me walking my dogs they often greet me because they see me clean up after my dogs if they crap in front of their home. Not walk off and leave it like my Mother is coming along behind me to clean up.

Some riders like to help out:

Some riders just like to be douches and aggravate neighborhoods.
The first thing I thought when I saw this was a buddy who came back from SE Asia. He saw a large crowd waiting waving signs about how he killed babies. About a dozen Bikers were also there to escort the guys. Hundreds of screaming "brave sign wavers", vs a dozen older bikers. The brave sign wavers screamed a lot but got NO WHERE NEAR them as they walked to the people wait to give them a ride.

100% agreed. And this is what kinda makes me lean heavily towards the arm everyone philosophy.

Its funny how you ALWAYS meet the NICEST people at the gun ranges or gravel pits where every single person is armed. "Just you know.. Sort of funny"-Dr. Strangelove.
People usually get all sorts of polite when they know guns are around.
I keep thinking of that old Heinlein quote, "An armed society is a polite society". :D

997 People shot in Chicago so far this year.
One of the strictest gun control cities in America. Standby while this is spread nationwide as quickly as possible. Note 63K violent felons are soon to be released in CA.

In case you didn't know the name for what is going on here you go...

"...anarcho-tyranny," is essentially a kind of Hegelian synthesis of what appear to be dialectical opposites: the combination of oppressive government power against the innocent and the law-abiding and, simultaneously, a grotesque paralysis of the ability or the will to use that power to carry out basic public duties such as protection or public safety. And, it is characteristic of anarcho-tyranny that it not only fails to punish criminals and enforce legitimate order but also criminalizes the innocent." - Sam Francis (1993)

Now that you know what is going on, ask the more important question. Why?

Because we are near the end?

Because we are near the end?
That is certainly a possibility. However folks have been saying that for millennia. Regardless, we should ironically be behaving both as though there were 2 more millenia to go and simultaneously as though it all ends tomorrow.

Perhaps the question we should be asking is what do we do about the 'who', who are doing this.

Because this is what the voters keep saying they want. Places like Chitown have been run by one party for a LONG time. So the people get to live with the choices they make.
As for the law makers? Its all about power. If you keep the voters scared they do what you tell them to do. Do away with crime and what would they fear? Sadly a lot of voters just keep saying this is how they want to live. The rest of us have to deal with it.

1) "there are no crimes in oregon."
Pretty soon gun ownership will be the only crime

2) "Old boy points a gun at some gypsy joker 1%ers , and spends next week pulling grip screws and barrel bushing out of his depends."
I have never had any contact with the Gypsy Jokers, but I was involved with Socially Alternative V-Twin Enthusiasts for several years. Therefore I recognize that these people are anything but 1%ers. If that clown had been so stupid as to pull a gun on real 1%ers he would probably not have survived. Ref. The Rolling Stones concert at Altamont for how that could be expected to go.

3) "People, stop and think about that for a moment before you go revving up that straight piped Harley or rice bike around strangers."
FWIW, straight pipes on a Harley aren't the best choice choice for performance. I have a 2-into-1 header with a Supertrapp muffler and it runs very well. It probably doesn't meet EPA noise specs, but it's not egregiously loud and the baritone sound isn't the irritant that a 2-stroke with unmuffled expansion chamber is. Also, I don't rev it to annoy people.

4) Bosozoku
I looked it up, and the cars don't look that different from the lowriders here. The bikes have their own strange aesthetic. They sure don't look like anything I ever saw in the real world, sort of a fusion of early Dragon Man sissy bar with a cafe racer fairing.
De gustibus non desputandum est.

5) "If it happened as described he was absolutely in the wrong. He should have used his garden hose because you alley riders are complete arseholes."
Bingo!! A garden hose is pretty much at the bottom of the continuum of force.

6) "Part of why riding in a big group like that is exciting and enjoyable is the group is too large for anyone to confront or object."
Yup.
Having had contacts with Gypsy Jokers I'd say your'e right. If you are going to attempt to stop a gang of Gypsy Jokers from making a nuisance the best thing you can do is clothesline them. You definitely dont want to go pointing guns at them. They'll make it a point to make an example out of you. A simple anonymous wire strung across the alley will take out a couple of them before they know what happened. Tire spikes afterwards.

1) You would never see 1%ers doing anything remotely resembling the alley run.

2) If one did string a wire at neck height and caused injury you can bet the cops would look into it, with better chance of finding the perp than the bikers would have. Booby traps on public property are a serious no-no.

3) "Now that you know what is going on, ask the more important question. Why?"
The destruction of the middle class is the obvious result. Since the perps aren't stupid, it's not likely an unintended consequence.

Thats where keeping your mouth shut comes in handy.
