Because that's a lot of cutting to mess up when you could sell the old gas block to pay for a new low profile gas block.

It doesn't work that way. FSB are like a fingerprint to their barrel they're installed on.

If your new hand guard has a new barrel nut, you are going to have to take the FSB off anyway. Why not just replace it? It isn't rocket science. If you don't get it on straight, try again. Just don't lock tite it until you are sure it is correct.
