My favorite scene from the movie "Sons of Katie Elder" where he lays out George Kennedy.
Notice how he has to duck down under the arch way and then does a short hop to pick up the axe handle.
He moves pretty good for a big man.

Turns out my dad lettered in football at the same high school (Glendale, Calif.) as John Wayne, but 11 years later after The Duke graduated.

Remember driving down to Newport beach and seeing his converted mine sweeper, the grey goose. So many good movies, I think "The Quiet Man" is my favorite. Had a quality to it.

While known for his westerns my favorite movie with him in it was "They Were Expendable".

Then: The Shepherd of the Hills. Blew me away. And if you don't fall in love with Betty Field in this movie, ya just ain't human.
