Through the years, I have worked in Nevada a lot and am there this week. Imagine my surprise when I was confronted with this sign at the Safeway store in Hawthorne, NV.

I agree. You can carry weapons everywhere in Nevada (except the usual, banks, casinos, post office, etc). I'll be sure to keep my eyes open at any Safeways or Von's I go to.

So in the case of an armed robbery I guess I would only be responsible for defending me and mine... as for the store or the staff - they are on their own....

Hawthorne - isn't that where they have the dummy in the cop car in the median of the hwy going through town?

I've got a better one.
There are signs in the neighborhoods in Reno that say, it's unlawful to discharge a firearm in this area.
That's tells you it's still the wild west down there.

I stop at that Safeway almost every time I go thru there, I never noticed the sign. But leave my gun in the car because I don't have a Nevada carry license. You can open carry, but not concealed there. So I leave my weapon on the car seat as I drive but put it in the back if I go in a store. It's a stupid little game I have to play. But if I stop at a lonely rest area I carry it anyway.

Damm, that's the only good size grocery store for miles.

It's a store policy, NOT a law. I've never paid attention to these signs when carrying in a business. The only thing is that if for some your carry weapon is spotted and you're asked to leave by the management, you have to leave. If you agree to leave they can't touch you however if you resist leaving then you can be trespassed. That's pretty much the sum of it.

I've been cc for years and have never been outed and asked to leave any establishment.

So does that mean the bad guys will have to go to Albertsons?

Weird.

If there were an Albertsons... Safeway is the ONLY grocery store in Hawthorne. When I asked the hotel clerk how long the sign had been up, he was pretty surprised. Hadn't even heard about it...

The dummy cop car used to be in the town of Walker Lake. Wasn't there this week.

Back in the early 80's some one spray painted Dummy Cop on the side of the car. As well as other negative things.

Vegas is a police state you need the Sheriff's permission via a Sheriff's card to get almost any job related to any casino. Fingerprinting and background checks just to bus tables seriously. Handgun registration in clark county they issue a "blue card", and don't get caught without it. Until Nevada became shall issue state it was almost impossible to get CHL unless you knew the right people or could justify a reason which had to be something like "I carry large sums of money through very bad neighborhoods at 3 AM." Self defense was not good enough. CHL States type of gun. ie revolver or semi auto. You better pick one you like to carry all the time and take the class with it. No picking based Just upon what you are wearing or the weather.

Also speaking of Hawthorne beware of their Deputies, They are Small town dirty dishonest cops, (I say this even though I am very pro law enforcement and used to be a certified Peace Officer in Nevada.) They will profile you then pull you over for some BS excuse and search and arrest without PC, going fishing in the hopes of finding justification for their actions retroactively. A friend of mine got pulled over for not having his daytime running lights on at 4 in the afternoon on a sunny day and got jacked up. Deputy pulled him over for this, had his gun drawn walking up to the car and told him he smelled pot (My friend has long hair and a beard looks like a biker/hippie.) and he told him he was going to search his car. (Back in the day people with guns who stopped you on the road were called highwaymen not highway partrolmen:s0112:.) He brought in a drug dog who found nothing. Funny how the cop could smell things on a car he just walked up to that the trained dog couldn't while rummaging through every nook and cranny. Hmmmm? Trashed his stuff threw it all over the side of the road on the ground and then arrested him anyway. Then the cop stole his pocket knife and cash he had on him, that never made it to booking to be inventoried. The DA hasn't moved forward with prosecution its been 2 1/2 years. Cost thousands to straighten it all out.

Anyway beware make sure your headlights are on, don't speed and get a haircut so you don't give any reason for them to stop you on your way through Hawthorne cause this kind of thing still happens.:s0131:
