Restocking a Savage 7mm RM.

Looking at a Boyd's classic laminated or Hogue overmolded with pillar bedding. Any experience with these two? Recommendations please.

I have restocked several Savages in Boyd's stocks. I really like them. I have never used a Hogue.

You would need to pillar and/or glass bed the Boyds on your own. It isn't hard. I have not needed to do any real additional fitting with mine which had been Axis, Axis II, 16, and 110 models.

I thought the forestock on the Hogue pillar bedded stock was a little too flexible for my taste, although it was stiffer than the cheap factory Savage stock.

I have done two rifles with Boyds stocks and been very happy. I have a third planned which is a Savage 111 Trophy Hunter being changed into a Magnum barreled .35 Whelen Elk rifle.

I got their pro varmit stock and restocked a 110 with it. Nice quality and has held up good.

Thanx for the input folks! Have heard horror stories from both Boyd's and Hogue. Love em or hate em. Will probably try Boyd's for the 110 and, depending on results, maybe try Hogue for a Rem 721 project.
