I have used this method to good effect. It only attacks the rust and will not pit the metal like vinegar will if left to long in the solution.
It works great when trying to de-rust a gas tank.

I have been using the Electrolysis method for a lot of years and Have been able to salvage many very hard to replace parts on my car projects! Combined with soda ash and other "stripper agents" the results are simple amazing! I was able to save several parts on my 46 PowerWagon using this trick, and even better, my 32 Imperial town car! The crown jewel of this was saving an ultra rare, uber expensive V-12 Continental engine. I found this engine sitting out side at the end of an old abandoned field of aircraft parts and managed to swing a super deal on it for the Imperial! Should have her up and running on the engine stand some time this summer!
