With each congress and administration - albeit some more, some less - we see the reach of government grow more and more beyond the role originally envisioned for it by the Constitution, so that, today, it has grown so far beyond the confines of the Constitution that far too few Americans pay any attention anymore. I would bet that the founding fathers would be shocked, on the one hand, to see the extent of government today - a government still purporting to be bound by the Constitution - and not surprised on the other, knowing full-well the nature of government.
Thanks for capturing this so eloquently Mr. McNaughton.
Several of our early presidents would have gotten out a pair of gloves and a pair of dueling pistols in the old days.. I seem to remember at least one such confrontation on the White House lawn
Probably would eliminate some of the personal attacks politicians like to make these days.
