I would say no longer than 2 years, providing you have them sealed in heavy mylar. What some people dont realize is the fact that certain foods have natural oils an it is the oil that will turn racid fairly quickly even though it is sealed. Most mylar/plastic bags have a barrier property that does let oxygen go back and forth this is the main reason for reduced shelf life , even a CO2 back fill will bleed off.
They will work for the home user and not just the vacuum machines.
