I just got some new Pachmayr grips for my Pitbull in .45acp. The new grips feel great; but, the new rubber smell is pretty bad. Anyone have tips on how to remover the smell? Thanks.

Rub in some Lavender oil, you'll be smelling fresh all day long.

Remove the grips and scrub in hot water with a small brush and toothpaste.

Ballistol to the inside of them if it really horrible but I honestly prefer to rub just a bit of dry dirt into the exterior grip rubber areas, then leave it on for a few days before you wipe off....no kidding

I washed them with hot water and dawn dish soap about 3 times and the smell is almost all gone. If it's still around next week, I'll try the toothpaste.

Oftentimes a dry element can pull the oil/petroleum based smell off things, like baking soda for example. Rubber airs out best in the sun, too. Thankfully rubber smell will almost always go away with time, unlike artificial fragrances which can linger in polymer or soft plastics/rubber seemingly forever.

Pack them with baking soda in a zip lock. Check them every so often.

Synthetic rubber outgassing. It's just the nature of it. Walk into a tire shop and you smell it. Cant get around it. It will abate in time. Either live with it or wait.
