    I'm sorry I really dont know anything about it .I just thought it was a cool old .22 and I bought it.

    I think that old gun is chambered in the .22 Remington automatic. Which If so, dates way back and is a rare old semi obsolete or obsolete rim fire cartridge.
    Have you chambered anything in the rifle or do you intent to shoot it, the .22 long rifle I mean?
    It might be they [Remington] chambered the Mod 16 in the .22 long rifle but if so I have never seen one personally.

    The barrel is stamped (22 Remington autoloading ) I just assumed .22lr

    It's Remington .22 automatic, which is not the same as .22lr. That round hasn't been produced in decades. Hard to find and very expensive. Gorgeous rifle, but a collector, not a shooter.
