SDR, this is actually a true 600 (not a Mohawk). The Mohawk was the later (cheaper) version, with no vent rib. They actually say "Mohawk" on the barrel stamp. (I'd bet yours doesn't have this stamp.) Don't like to step on toes, but in this case I believe my correction is an upgrade to you. The original 600's are more desirable to collectors (a friend has about 20 of them). If this was any other caliber, I'd be interested.

No charge for this service, unless it grants me additional consideration toward my offer on your Savage 340 .222!

I used to own a Rem 600 in 308. It wasn't a " Mohawk " and it wasn't a 660. It had no vent rib and wasn't even drilled for iron sights. Everyone always tried to tell me it was a " Mohawk ". There are some oddball variations out there.

Unless you bought it new that way i'd guess it was a re-barreled 600. There were different variations (only few catologed) but I've never seen one like that. They were famous in part for that large front sight that always hung up in the brush. People so hated that and the sight that a re-barrel was not unheard of.
If it was a rare variation then you had the issue of "prove it" since Remington never kept track of which ones they altered other than the obvious model changes.

Moot point . sold it years ago. If it was a rebarrel it had all the correct Remington marking on the barrel that could not have been replicated by an after market barrel and the muzzle diameter was the same as any other 600 so it wasn't a shortened barrel off of a 700.
