Since the SR1911 is harder to find than the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I've been looking at the Remington 1911 R1. This will be my first 1911 and if I had deeper pockets I'd get a Kimber. I've read some reviews on the Remington and they say its a pretty good choice. Any thoughts?

The great which-1911-to-buy question! My vote goes to a Springfield 1911. They have several models to cover a variety of budgets. Plus, they have the "Series 70" firing system, like the Ruger SR1911. The Remington uses the firing pin block "Series 80". Google it to add to the never ending debate on these guns...
I'm rambling. Springfields are reliable, great value, and a great warranty.
