I am not a fan of the SOCOM it is VERY loud. I use to think my MK14 Mod 0 was on the loud side compared to my other M14's but after shooting a SOCOM it is quite nice.

I like the MK14 over the SOCOM because it is not even an inch longer then the SOCOM yet uses all standard M14 parts.

Well I worked on this one per your request. This is the one I was most worried about due to the surface rushed. However, with some brushing and solvent the rust lifted off without issues. There is some small pitting in a few areas, but overall once cleaned this rifle has some shine back into it!

Type: 2nd Gen M1 Carbine
Make: Universal
Caliber: .30 Carbine
Year: ?
Value: $450ish
Thanks again for posting the photos. I very glad the M1 turned out better than you first thought. I've always wanted one of those for some reason.

Mr. REBRO, just a note, you might want to check the "Rifling" in the barrels of the weapons, from what i'm been reading about the weapons been around for awhile and not to sure if youre uncle fire them much in the past. I'm also a "New" member to the Fourm, and from what I seen(read) the folks here are very friendly and helpfull. And it seems that youre great uncle must have loved you very much to leave you such a great leagacy.

Ya think? They are loud from 30 yards away...pointing the opposite direction.
But it seems like a nice little 308...truck gun.

Just Snapped a few pictures. Apparently my Nikon is dead, so hopefully these will do.

Looks like one of the quality Korean imports. These still go for $100 plus.

here's the original w/ordnance stamp.

The stock on your Fed Ord M1A is IMO USGI surplus Vietnam era fiberglass.. very sturdy and were selling for $15 for many years but have dried up. Lots of guys like me bought one to camo and for use in the NW weather

I know I mentioned it in your other thread, but you are interested, I can email you a copy of my firearms spreadsheet (excel).

It would make your inventory process easier in the long run.

pm me if you would like it.

Good luck with the project, I'll be checking in to see how they look.

I'm still trying to figure out how to determine wether my Federal Ordinance M14SA may possibly have USGI parts or if it's Japanese parts.

Also trying to figure out an appropriate value for the weapon.

The USGI stocks like yours are now going for well over $100.. more like $150 from what I am seeing

If you were closer, I could show you USGI parts, once you see them it is easy to tell the cheaper cast Chinese parts. Norinco M14's that got caught up in the ban were disassembled into parts kits and Fed Ord used these parts kits on later builds. From what I have read it can be a hit or miss on Fed Ord M14's but they can be gone through to make a great rifle. Here is some info that I copied off another site. The Stock looks like a USGI fiberglass stock and is nothing special, they are on Ebay all the time and can be had for about $20-$40.

"Federal Ordnance built two types of M14 rifles, one with USGI parts and one with Chinese parts. Model numbers M14 and M14A were designed to accept USGI bolts and barrels. Otherwise, the receiver was manufactured to mate with Chinese bolts and barrels. USGI parts were used extensively in Federal Ordnance rifles through at least serial number 8877. The USGI parts were taken off USGI M14 rifles imported from Israel. By serial number 9279, if not earlier, Chinese and Taiwanese reproduction parts were used to assemble its rifles. For example, Federal Ordnance M14SA serial number 502XX was assembled at the factory on September 13, 1991 with Chinese manufacture bolt, operating rod, firing mechanism and barrel. Chinese and Taiwanese M14 parts were purchased from U. S. importers. Receivers with serial numbers above 60XXX have engraved heel markings. The model number changed from M14A to M14SA between serial numbers 9139 and 9279. Four digit serial number Federal Ordnance receivers observed were marked on the side with the letter F inside a circle. This marking was sometimes lightly stamped. The circle F marking has not been observed on serial numbers above 10000. Federal Ordnance sold complete rifles as well as stripped receivers. Federal Ordnance sold a few M14 rifles to walk-in retail customers and through Shotgun News advertisements but most were sold to firearms distributors."

Thanks to various owners of Federal Ordnance M14 type rifles, I'm keeping a tally of serial numbers versus model numbers. Any and all contributions to this list are confidential. Correspondence is deleted immediately.

I found the above info, and with my serial number its more then likely Jap parts, however its seems unlike my uncle to want such a gun, so I'd like to just verify before putting a price tag on it. I've seen them sell from $600-1000. I'm just not sure what I should start at. My coworker really wants the gun.

Fred's is sellling the grade 2 stocks for $45 and you have to wait cause they are scarce.. it's WAY down near the page bottom

I have an original Polytech with 800 rds thru it and it's fine... I believe most of the anti Chinese M1A hype was US manufacturers freaking out at $400 M1As coming in with near full kit. it's no national match but it's a decent gun

There is an On-Line gun blue book option (far right) and I'm sure that will be helpful.

I've been trying to determine a price for this, the 2 blue book guns I have list different models. I assume it's a model 1003 because based on the serial it's a second gen. Any ideas?

Still looking for an estimated price I should ask on the Universal Carbine.
I appreciate the Blue Book Value of The Federal Ordinance M14, I'm just confused as to why the price is so much higher then the 2 books I have. I Guess $1,000 is a good asking price?

Onto the next gun for everyone to check out....

Type: U.S. Rifle M1
Make: Winchester
Caliber: .30
Year: 1943?
Value: $1,000?

As you can see I'm also having issues with making sure I have the year correct as well as the asking price. From what I've read alot of these have been rebuilt...
