I've been studying up on what happened in New Orleans during Katrina, the gun confiscations. I didn't pay much attention then because i was younger. Anyway with all the things happening today with proposed gun control and bans i'm curious what people would actually do when faced with a group of armed police officers or soldiers at their door with weapons drawn demanding that you turn in your firearms.
Something like the situation in Katrina. There are plenty of videos online of this happening.
Please don't tell me there are tons of threads about this or that you lost them in a tragic boating accident

Seriously right now they are knocking on your front door, back door, and at your windows
what do you do?

Also i'm curious about private sales because i have conducted a lot of private sales so there are quite a few firearms in my name throughout the state and a good portion of my current collection are not in my name. Of course there are bills of sale but honestly anyone could write a phony bill of sale

But I really did lose them in a tragic boating accident. Lol. If swat team was locked and loaded I would tell them that I would not agree to let them search and seize anytning but would not put fourth any resistance if they decided yo do it without my permission. Then I would call an attorney and call everyone I know and post online that they are coming to peoples homes and taking guns by force in hopes that most people could burry everything the own in the woods and use the boat story. Then when the SHTF even harder I'll have plenty of people with burried guns that got my back.

well, if its local police, id ask them what they want and if they have a warrant. if they don't I tell them to F-off and have a nice day. If they kick the door in and toss a flash bang, well, I just hope there is a camera rolling so I can make some money off the city/state/county.

Hide well and deny.. if it's just local. If it's a region or nationwide confiscation then the only option for patriots is taking it to them, not waiting to be targeted

If the latter occurs and you act the coward I will deny you as a countryman and you deserve at best summary deportation

Wasn't there a Supreme court case a while back that pretty much stated if someone tries to enforce a unconstitutional law they were in fact acting illegally and could be arrested? It my have been Maybury vs Madison but I really don't remember. So, if that's true, couldn't you place anyone who tries to confiscate your firearms under citizens arrest?

Also, In my opinion, if the feds come in and start going door to door to confiscate, it would lead to civil war. We are already starting to go down a similar path that lead to it back in the 1860s with the big cities in the north telling the southern, rural people what they should be doing. Now we have the hippies in the big cities trying to get laws passed that effect everyone, not just them.

Sounds like the back drop to a good comedy line.

I'm envisioning Walter Matthau in Grumpier Old Men having a SWAT team pouring into his home and him saying "SHHTOP YOU BUNCH OF PUTZ'S!!! You are all under citishuns arresht! And don't touch my bait."

Haha, I miss Walter.

L.A. Riots, Katrina and then the most recent east coast storm all clearly show the need for more than a shot gun for home/personal defense.

Katrina, which there is a lot of information and misinformation out there, was a HUGE disaster. One in which took out not only the normal communications lines, but also the backup system the police used to communicate/dispatch officers. This left dictating orders to word of mouth. One simple directive used was "we are going to take back our city from the looters" got shortened after being passed between officers a couple times to "do what you have to do". So basically, after a few directives passed by word of mouth from the top to the street patrol officers, it was a free for all for the police.

Couple this with roving groups of people (some with honorable intentions, some not), the slow moving actions of our federal government and the misguided efforts of the National Guard and you've got total mayhem.

I've watched movies about this, videos and interviews trying to get a non-biased view of what happened down there.

The simple fact of the matter is; with a complete break-down of communications (this included law enforcement and the general public) people will not know what's going on around the corner or two houses down and they will have a deeply rooted need for information.

When/if some agency (I personally cannot keep up with all the gun toting government agencies there are out there now and their cute little acronym or abbreviations) come knocking on your door, you will more than likely not know what it's about. Folks will be eager for communications; warnings, food sources, shelters, evacuations (the list goes on). So they will open the door and they will remove their first line of defense from any sort of misguided/misinformed, unconstitutional efforts that are being done.

These times are not like the government has targeted "you" and have camped out on your lawn for a couple days. Thus giving you prep time to decide what course of actions you are willing to take. These are times of fear, uncertainty and isolation. One in which puts you in charge of the safety of your family and to a lesser degree your personal belongings.

The real question one has to answer is; are you willing to get your family killed by some group of government agents/local police that are standing in your open door- way locked and loaded?

The whole concept that "I' won't answer the door" is a joke. You will want to know what's going on, our society is so information driven in today's times, that the lack thereof will drive you to open your door. There are too many variable in a situation like this that would force you to open your door. For instance; food/water shortage, medical attention, medicine needs, basic necessities.........

To finally answer your question;

I would not voluntarily give up my guns. BUT, in the given situation where my door is open, I have armed police/national guard/some government agents ready and willing to unlawfully come into my house to disarm me, I have more to lose than my guns. All the sudden I risk my families safety either through getting arrested and taken away, or by forcing a confrontation in which shots are fired.

It's a very scary situation, one in which has too many variables for everyone to say "this is how it should be done" or "you are wrong and I'm right". I do know for a fact that the cities will be a very different situation than the outlying country side. I would not envy anyone living in the city during a natural disaster or an all-out riot (Read up on the LA riots where the police actually pulled back and left the general public to fend for themselves).

As far as having guns not registered to you... Unless there was a peace-time gun confiscation, where the police were actually going door to door with a list of guns that each and every citizen owned, it won't matter. The question that will be asked is "do you have a gun" and at which time you will have a choice to make and your answer will make you either disarmed or a target if you leave your house with a gun.

Just want to throw out there that the folks that stayed during Katrina and Sandy had plenty of notice. I remember on the national news prior to Katrina a New Orleans government official ( that goofy mayor ?) stating that this was going to be very bad and to leave the city. During Sandy I saw the government of New York saying the same thing, this is going to be very bad, leave.

In both situations I could have loaded a uhaul with every single thing I owned and evacuated, DAYS prior. I was living in the socialist utopia that is the SF Bay area during Katrina and my plan was this; I would evac IMMEDIATELY with my family. My plan was to head east. I realize we always wont have the opportunity to get a heads up. I will cross that bridge when I get there.

Here in Vancouver I have both tanks filled at the moment, if I'm ever advised to evac I will head east, before most folks even leave their jobs. ( I work from home ) I have insurance for the furniture. I will grab my PC, guns, ammo, food and water.

To answer your original question :

I would simply tell them I am not a gun owner, they scare me very much. I no longer have a safe, just a carry weapon and a Colt 6920. Both I can hide very easily in my house. You would never even know I'm a gun owner at the moment. I'm not going to challenge the national guard or a LEO team in my doorway with my daughter standing behind me.

Now; If they are there for more than a knock and talk and are committing crimes ( besides the obvious 2nd amendment infringement ) more like ( Danziger Bridge shootings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) , all bets are off. I will simply leave it at that.

You could also get a little Jiminez arms pistol as a " give away gun ". I can think of several instances it would be useful, this being one. Nervously say well, my dad gave me this, it scares me though, and hand it over.

:)

During the Oakland protest(s) of this event; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BART_Police_shooting_of_Oscar_Grant

I was monitoring Alameda county sheriff trunked traffic for any hint of things losing control, I was ready to leave within 2 or so minutes.

Call me paranoid but this is just one reason I don't have a safe. Even if I had one my guns/valuables wont go in there! Also I own a couple of guns passed down to me that have no record of being purchased by me. In the back of my mind I really don't believe they don't keep a data base of every gun we buy from a dealer. Background check = secret registration.

As to what I'd do, I'd give them one and say I sold the rest. It's more believable if they have a record of you owning multible guns at some time that you would keep at least one.

its so easy to puff your chest on the net but if it comes down to it we'll all make the best call we can at the moment. that said I think the chance of things coming to that on a national level are slim. I still have spam, rice, and water in my garage.

There was a thread with a link to a fictional story on it about this subject.Kind of a fun read. The author was writing it from a FEMA camp, that was taken over by Patriots.
The jist of it was,TPTB were being knocked off on their ways to and from work. All support workers too.Wasn't safe to leave the house, had to buy junkers to drive, scarves, wigs the like.
But as it came down, they lost bad and we won.
A friend ask what are you going to do when the helicopters and tanks come 'round?
What are the pilots and driver going to do when we have had enough of them completely destroying OUR lives?

Yea I'll stop there.
