Rasmussen: Holder not so popular; NRA's Cox wants him fired

A new Rasmussen poll released today says Attorney General Eric Holder "remains one of the best-known and least-liked members of President Obama's cabinet," and considering remarks made by top National Rifle Association lobbyist Chris Cox at the association's convention over the weekend, he will get no sympathy from gun owners.

Does a former AG get "personal guards for life" after they leave office? He may need it...

The issues with Holder, and the rest of the Obama administration are poorly defined as a battle over rights, whether they be for guns or not, but rather the awareness of the bulk of the American people that Obama and the rest of the cabinet see themselves as leaders for the privileged few, or the "disaffected poor", both of which are tiny constituencies compared to the masses of us that go to work every day and are faced with onerous regulations and fat tax bills.

As far as the issue of self defense goes, this issue easily spills over into the state department, where they are demanding the pro-russian militants "disarm" and "come to the table". Which is a losing proposition for the would-be militants, as that would give them zero recourse should they not like what they hear. Fact of the matter is, no one wants to negotiate from a position of weakness, except maybe the Obama administration.

Generally, I would classify all of these issues under the heading "lack of life experience". The current debate over the minimum wage is looking more and more like a call of "let them eat cake" to the small business owners out there. The current administration seems to have a view of how things should be with very little understanding of why things are the way they are, and has shown active disinterest in learning what most would consider important lessons in how to deal with people. At the same time, a not-insignificant part of the electorate seems to dismiss the excesses enjoyed by those in the business of governing us.

One thing that was pointed out recently by Mark Steyn "Why does the citizen-executive of a republic of limited government need 900 flunkeys for a one-day visit to Belgium?" This is the not-so-subtle sign of a complete disconnect, and there is no reason to believe any member of the cabinet even knows where to find the pulse of the voting public, much less what it should be telling them. Guns are but a small symptom of the greater illness. Alas, I suppose the terminal nature of this illness will be triaged, and palliative care is the most that can be hoped for.
