YAKIMA, Wash. — A Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy has suffered an apparently accidental gunshot wound to the leg from his own rifle during SWAT training in Yakima.

The deputy was not identified; he was flown by helicopter Monday to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment of the non-critical wound. Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover says he’s in his early 30s and has been with the sheriff’s office for about five years and on the sheriff’s SWAT team for one year.

About 22 Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies are in Yakima through Tuesday for training at the Army’s Yakima Training Center.
