Questions for a Gun Control Project

Hey all,
My wife is writing a paper and her thesis is "Gun crimes are more frequent in illegal gun owners than they are with legal gun owners." She asked me to think of any closed-ended questions that can be answered with

1. Strongly Agree
2. Agree
3. Neither
4. Disagree
5. Strongly Disagree

Can you think of any questions that would help her out?

*** The thesis is not up for debate, so any questions you can think of would be helpful - debating the hypothesis is not helpful.

I'm not sure I fully follow so I might be off base. Based on the responses don't you need statements?

People should be punished for crimes before they commit them. SA, A, N, D, SD
A police officer will be there when you need one.
The police are there to protect you as an individual.
Criminals by definition ignore the law.
Criminals believe they will get away with breaking the law.
If a criminal is caught the likelyhood of them spending any significant time in jail is low.

Owning a gun makes someone more likely to commit a crime.
Guns randomly fire by themselves.
Without guns people wouldn't kill one another.
I will never be the victim of a violent crime.
Someone who has stolen a gun is likely going to commit a violent crime.
Someone who has legally purchased a gun is likely to commit a violent crime.
A gun is just a tool; no different from a hammer or computer.

Concealed weapons should not be permitted
I trust the police
The only function of handguns are to kill people
You should have to pass a test and get a license to own a gun
There should be a 3 day waiting period before you can take possession of a gun you buy.
Only police should be allow to carry a gun

Mind you, these questions do not necessarily reflect my personal opinions, just examples questions with an anti-gun slant. Obviously, I am not anti gun.
I wish people would concentrate on the real problem: "CRIME CONTROL". For "Gun Control" I use both hands if one isn't enough!

8 US Presidents have been NRA members. They are: Ulysses S. Grant,
Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Dwight D. Eisenhower,
John F. Kennedy, Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush.

80 MILLION law abiding gun owners didn't shoot anyone today, a few criminals did!!

The "Feedback Score" is low by 4, not everyone posts it I guess.

There ia a town (Kennesaw) in Georgia, that made the news. It has a city ordinance that every home owner had to have a fire arm? Now that's my kind of gun control. what a concept even playing field for all.

Questions for the survey?

Gun control only affects law abiding citizens
Gang members follow gun controls laws
Law abiding citizens should be disarmed
Gun control reduces crime
Criminals will turn in their guns if law prohibits ownership.
Law abiding citizens will turn in their guns if law prohibits ownership.
Gun control Laws significanlty reduce crime in countries with strict Gun Control Policies
Criminals will obey gun control laws

Back in the 1960's in the Goldwater run for presidency there were lots of discussions. Bet you those arguments are still valid - then you create questions. I remeber having to do a paper on why gun control is bad policy.

How about asking the NRA - bet you they have some ideas and can help form a series of questions. But as I remember - for a survey to be useful - you have to formulate a series of questions that are asked in different ways to get real answers.

I can see it now, some gun control advocate takes everything mentioned here, out of context and says "See, even the gun forums agree, that firearms should be controlled"
Now, someone will take my remarks out of context.
