I'm coming up in a few days to spend Christmas with family- bringing a few rifles with me to shoot. Given the increasingly restrictive gun regs in Kommiefornia, I may bring them up to stay soon until we move up permanently. I'm hoping the three years will go quickly- I REALLY HATE CALIFORNIA.

I'd never bring any weapons down here- given the socialist nature of this state, they may be confiscated despite being on the exempt list. I trust CA law enforcement's enterpretation of the current gun laws as far as I can throw them.

When you say "near Joshua Tree" I hope you mean public land that you can legally shoot on, and not the national forest itself.
Not a national forest, a National Park now (big difference, you can shoot in national forests, but not in Joshua Tree). I was born and raised in the deserts of So. California, 3rd generation in fact as my Grandfather was born on our family homestead in Borrego Springs. I left 20 years ago because it was changing so much, my Grandfather's orchards were gone, and my lifestyle was disappearing. I'm not up on current California laws; we used to throw our gear and guns in the international travel-all or scout (we had a lot of internationals) and go rabbit hunting for days in the Anza-Borrego and never thought about gun laws. I used to go to Joshua Tree as a teenager (when it wasn't a monument or park) and we had all kinds of adventures. It's definitely a special place, but not the hidden treasure it once was.
I know there are a lot of gun owners in California who would have good information about what is a good plan for bringing guns for sport or even protection, I just wouldn't go with guns unless I had such a plan. It may be excessive to some, but don't go through the big cities and stay east of the I-5 and you're in more friendly territory. Good luck!

First off, nothing restricts your ability to bring off roster guns into CA. You may not bring mags over 10 rounds or assault weapons as CADOJ sees them however. Handguns need to be transported in a locked container, unloaded, but the mags and ammo may be in the same container. If you are stopped by CA State LEO, you are not obligated to divulge that you are carrying firearms. Federal law states that it is illegal to "lie" to Federal Agents

There are some cool shooting spots out in the desert by Joshua Tree NP. I've shot at a few not too far from the North Entrance to the Park.

Of concern to me would be all the things you cannot do there with a concealed weapon, like breathing. Public events, sporting venues, etc. actively check for them too, with metal detectors.

So what then? Leave the weapons safely locked up in an impregnable steel vehicle - with glass windows?

I was born and raised here, but I lived in SoCal for a long time, luckily for me before it was FUBAR by libtards. Sad, sad turn of events for such a beautiful part of the world.

That would be a wise decision! I don't know how likely it would be for target shooting to draw LEO's there but I just wouldn't do it! Good luck to you! :)

No plinking in national parks for one thing as for Cali no Mag's over ten rounds take your revolvers lol BETTER YET DON'T GO HAVE THEM COME TO YOU 3286.jpeg

I don't recommend traveling to Ca or anywhere unarmed if possible. I've made the trip safely dozens of times without issue. Though usually around Medford when I gas up I transfer whatever I have, locked and unloaded and put un the rear of my SUV.

So far I don't recall the CHP or whoever runs the Ca border crossing ask if I have firearms. Mostly about fruit during the summer months. Once my wife was eating an apple or something at the time, I wasn't paying attention and I said no, and they waived us through.

You knew what I meant.

Is it registered in your name? Properly transferred from your grandfather?

If Ca LEO can't run the sn and have it come back in your name I'd leave it at home. Otherwise it should be fine as long as the gun is in a locked case in the trunk and ammo separate from that locked case. I think I'd leave it at home anyway if it's important to you and they are a bit rare. Maybe find an old single six or g19 and take that along.

Whenever I go down to visit my son in L.A. I bring a wheel gun with me and we go out shooting by the paintball field his mom owns. Nothing illegal about it.

Find a place where its legal to shoot and transport the gun locked in the trunk separate from the ammo and you'll be fine.

I'd leave the diamond back home. List or no list, some cop wants the gun,you get to fight to get it back. And good luck with that.
Get one of those rough rider single six wannabees. Then they won't want it or if they do you aren't out your heirloom.

I don't go to calls for nothin. My kid don't ask me to either

Yep. There's good prairie dog and hog hunting down there too.

Lots of bad advice here. You can take a gun into California and you can shoot it without fear of anyone taking it away from you as long as you transport it in accordance with state law and don't try to bring anything "banned" into the state.

Yea, I thought this was pioneer stock up here.. not hide your head in the sand sunts. Yes, you can travel with guns and shoot in California as well as any Californian.. and conversely, a Californian can travel and shoot up here as well and as legally as a resident.
