Apologies if I missed a recent thread on this, but in doing some searches I could only find older posts about buying gold and silver bullion for preparedness and hedging against the future. Do we have very many gold and silver stackers out there? If so I would love to hear some wisdom from those that have been doing it for a while, for us newbies . . .

I have been watching a Youtube Channel called "Silver Dragons" where the guy posts a lot of content about purchasing gold and silver. As I was watching his videos, which were very good, I realized that the store he often frequents and talks with the store owner on video, is actually LOCAL to Portland! Harrys Coin Shop in Beaverton. I have been lurking and tempted to start buying precious metals, but since i had a number of guns I still wanted to purchase, was focusing on that first. I also live in Salem, so didnt want to make the drive up just for that purpose. I just so happened to be at J&B Firearms to sell a gun today, and Harrys is just a block away, so thought I would stop by. Met Harry, the owner, and he is SUPER nice!

I ended up buying 15 ounces to start- 5 Silver Eagles, and then a 10oz poured bar, mostly because I liked the way it looked compared to the pretty ones- makes me feel like a pirate! ;-)

Anyone out there been doing this for a while and have advice for us newbies regarding good items to stack etc? Thank you!

The last couple days have been a good time to buy . So I heard.

I was hoping to break into this hobby myself, but my last day off i didn't manage to run into any.
I was thinking of getting between 15 and 20 oz.s in 5 oz or smaller pieces.

I used to buy and sell a little bit. Most everything I had is gone now but I've got a meager stash put away for each of my kids when they get older, more for sentiment than anything else. It definitely came in handy to curb the increasing cost of living while my wife was a stay at home mom... until it's gone, and she's back to working now too. I digress, if you're in the Portland metro area, check out AJPM (ajpm.com) and center street (centerstreetgoldsilver.com). Their websites are virtually the same, but they have different price spreads a lot of the time. They're both great brick and mortar spots to pickup or unload.

Silver rounds have lower premiums that silver coins so I feel that is the way to go to start your stack. Once you get a larger amount you can then spend a few more bucks and get some semi collectible coins if you like. I have bought from Harry's several times and really enjoy the employees there. Yankee Stacking is also a good You Tube channel to get some education from. For the very best deals watch Coinhuskers.

We have a fair amount of silver. I've been buying it since I was ten years old. It's not enough to retire with but still enough to have its own insurance on it and worry when we travel.

The cheapest way to stack silver is buy bags of unsorted coins, sort out the silver, and replace those coins with new coins, and wrap them up to take to the bank. Buy more bags of unsorted coins. this way you are only paying face value for silver coins.
This takes some time but is worth it if you enjoy sorting coins.
This was easier in the 1970's when 50% of the circulating change was silver, but it still pays today.
When my kids were waiting tables I sorted and rolled their coins for them. [ they were not interested at the time] I averaged 1 silver coin for every 4 rolls. That was around 2010ish. DR

Coin roll hunting can be fun. We did it for a while and now have a couple crown royal sacks full of 40% and 90% silver

I started buying silver a few years ago to acquire some for the grandkids. Nothing big, just a bit here and there. Mostly bullion rounds but coins as well. I really like the stuff from the Canadian Mint. I have been purchasing from JM Bullion online. Probably a squeak more expensive than a local purchase but their selection is awesome and it gets delivered to the house. They offer a veteran/military discount which helps a bit and it's free shipping if the purchase is $200 or more. Fun place to shop...

The jm bullion eBay store sometimes has better prices and promos than their actual website too.
