PSA: "Drilling" as used in (German) gun terminology

In this thread: Help identifying Grand dad's rifle
And number of people asked the question is the double-O/U gun of Iron Monster's a "drilling."

Just so folks know, the term "drilling" is an English bastardization of the German term "dreiling," which means "third" (3rd).
From the German word for three (3) which is "drei"

So, if it ain't got three (3) barrels, it isn't a "drilling."


Sorry for being pedantic, but I just thought a few people would like to know.

Why if it wasn't for the American Long Rifle which has its roots in the German Jaeger Rifles....
OH wait... Well ,The 1903 Springfield , which copied much of the Mauser 1898 rifle...

Funny old thing, how the Germans, who obviously don't speak German, also call it a drilling...which means, of course, triplet. The famous kitchen cutlery brand, Henckel, uses the 'Zwilling' as a trademark - in the form of a set of stylised twin stick-people.
