I've never been a landlord, but if things go according to plan, I'll have an empty mid-century home in SW Portland to rent out in a year or so. I don't know squat about renting to others so I'm hesitant to dive in solo and make every mistake there is to make. Thus, I'm considering using the services of a property manager, at least for awhile. Got a lot to learn.
- What do property managers typically do for a home owner? Some probably a lot, some maybe just a little?
- Is there any one big advantage?
- What might I expect to pay? A fixed monthly rate? A percentage of the rent?
- What services should I insist upon? What should I avoid like the plague?
- Any recommendations for my area?
- Whatever else I don't even know enough to ask about...
