I've been wanting a 1000yd + rifle and was ready to get a 300 win mag, when I came across the 6.5 Creedmoor. So after hours....okay days, of reading up on it I started the build.
PARTS—
Gibbz G10 latching side charging upper
AERO lower w CMMG parts kit
Proof Research 24in 6.5 CM
Superlative Arms adjustable gas block
Lantac enhanced NiB BCG
Leupold 20moa one piece scope mount
Vortex Viper FFP w level and lever
Midwest 15in Ss Mloc handguard
JP recoil eliminator
JP adjustable trigger
Old dpms panther grip
A2 stock...for now
First impressions: this thing is a dream to shoot. No recoil and the side charging upper is how all AR's should be made.
It's LOUD! The JP RE does it's job and you or the poor bastard next to you pays the price. It'll get suppressed some day but for now ear muffs are mandatory.
ACCURACY—
Testing was done from a solid bench using a cradle style support. 5 shot groups. 20 degrees out. 5-8 mph wind at 1/4 value. 100 yards
Winchester Match 140gr BTHP
1/2in groups
Federal Fusion 140gr SP
2in groups (yep 2 inches)
Hornady Match 147gr ELD
2 1/4in groups
Hornady Match 140gr ELD
1 7/8in groups
Hornady American Gunner 140gr BTHP
1/2in groups
I shot a lot of the American Gunner after testing. It averages 2700 FPS on the chronograph. Beats the snot out of my 500yd steel, shot after shot.
I'll get some lighter loads eventually to test out. Also I'll put these all on paper at 300 yds when the weather improves. 1000+ yd shooting to follow.
