I think what bugged me about it is that it shouldn't matter what they were giving away. Nobody would have raised a stink if they were giving away a car (regardless of the number of vehicular deaths, including children, every year), or a refrigerator, or a swimming pool, or any number of items that can be inimical to life, including young ones. As long as it's legal and all the various laws are being followed, it shouldn't matter and people should take a stand on that, even if there hasn't been or doesn't appear to be a first order relationship between the two.

Once they decided to do it initially, they should stick to it. If they (baseball owners) have a problem with it, then don't offer it to begin with.
