Precision rifle match.
From >100 Yds up to 285 yds

You will need:
Rifle, Magnified scope, bipod, shooting bag, ammunition (usually less than 80rounds)
$15/cash per shooter

Setup starts at 8am. Zero check at 9am.

Most folks use bolt guns, but gas guns are great as well.
There will be 5 to 6 stages depending on time.
The stages are par timed and positions will be dynamic and there can be some strenuous and awkward shooting positions. Shooting from tank traps, barriers, prone and a good deal of movement will be involved. These matches are a hybrid of sniper and infantry style of shooting. We will be shooting at steel targets and poppers out to 285 yds.
Come have some fun and sharpen your shooting skills in a safe controlled environment outdoors in beautiful south Eugene.
No magnum calibers, rounds not to exceed 3200fps

More information can be found here:

What is the definition of a "Magnum caliber" per this match's rules?
That's a great question.
I'd say for starters, if it has the word magnum in it, such as 338 Norma magnum or 338 Lapua magnum it would not be allowed for the match.
Also if it's going faster than 3200 Fps.

Most people are shooting 556/223, 6.5Cr., 300blkout, 308. Intermediate/ short action/medium action. There used to be a guy who shot a 260 remington, but he moved to the east coast a while back. I imagine 30-06 is fine in heavier projectile weights. But you'll be doing a lot of mag changes.
Some stages can have 12 shots in them.

Either way , it would be great if you can make it out now that you got to shoot a pistol match, looks like you may be getting the competition bug.
Hopefully we'll see you at the speed steel match this weekend.
Hopefully I answered your question too.

Going through my safe, the only rifle I have that comes close at all is a .223 bolt gun with a 3-9x40 and blind magazine. Not ideal, but would I be able to play? I'm ok with dead last

I "registered" for the steel match tomorrow but I'm on a "wait list" so... I'll show up anyway and at least be a spectator. Can't really register early due to not knowing my weekend work schedule until late Friday most weeks. Oh well. I appreciate you guys being welcoming to newbies like me!

yes absolutely. I take DFL sometimes too. It's for the fun. gets the heartrate going.
As for the steel match, we get everyone in. people sometimes can't make it, we always have had room, even on the "full" squad roster days..

I'll always remember, it was a video Paul Harrell did back in the day, he said that shooting at competitions was one of the best ways to learn your weaknesses and sharpen your marksmanship skills all while being in a "safe" place.. Meaning when your life depends on it, muscle memory and coordination will be second nature if your life should be depending on it.
See you tomorrow morning!
