I'm a geek (big difference from nerd)... a mechanical genius... with berserker genes that boil and rage, but I choose to remain... "civilized'. o_O
I always enjoy your posts on Star Wars.
I am 44 this year.....I was the target audience, had the entire front yard dug up in scale planet settings where my friends and I would play till frostbite set in ....probably can find Han buried in Hut's layer out there to this day

If you're determined to get one then Google around, you can find artists that make them. There's even a couple of local dudes (I think they're still local) that make STELLAR copies. Be warned though, it's HIGHLY addictive... and expensive.

Are these made by Vacuum molding or plastic injection molding ?:s0153: I made projects in High school Plastics shop using various mold techniques. That's where my shop teacher told me McDonalds shakes:s0059: have disseminated plastic dust in them for thickness and I heard McRibs do also.:s0072::s0092:

Yes, they're vac-formed. I also have a couple roto-casted resin versions... too long of a story to get into. ;)

Nice thread. Iron Monster's stuff is really cool (closet fan, maybe).

Years ago a fishing buddy turned me on to this; not content with tying my own flies, I decided to make my own nets. First, you have to dig the bamboo roots--gotta go to Japan to do that. Cut off the hairy roots from the bamboo (not the above-ground stalks), boil in a vat to tenderize, then put on a form and dry the root system for about 3 months. Shave and sand to remove imperfections. Drill holes in the nodules to pass the netting. Lacquer to your heart's content. For the netting, dye in your favorite color (red or purple for me, although I have done a lot in golden). Knit knots to make the net (say that fast several times?). Weave the net onto the frame, and you are done.

Except, in stooopid Washington state it is now illegal to use a net while fishing if the net has knots. You can catch a live, beautiful fish, rip its mouth with a hook, squeeze its guts out when you pull the hook, wipe the life-saving slime off his body when you release him and return him to the water without fear of legal sanction, but you cannot use a knotted net. Because "it might harm the fish."

Rant over. Sorry for the thread jack. I am still pissed about the stupidity in this state.

Actually if the fish is to be released,it isn't supposed to leave the water

Made the bottom pistol from spare parts that were in the shop.
A old .54 rifle barrel chunk was used for the barrel, hand made maple stock and a conversion from flint to percussion on the lock, little odds and ends are the rest.

Thanks Orygun.
Black powder firearms are very fun to shoot.
And the clean up is not as bad as you might have heard...
Making or restoring the accoutrements that go with the guns is almost as fun as shooting them.
Guess I should also confess to making the powder horn as well.
Took an old charger and spout , put it on the horn and if you look real close you can see the Dragoon eagle I carved on the horn.

A few years ago, I bought my son a leather starter kit. I proceeded to teach him the basic stuff I had learned when I was a kid in 4-H. Turned out he didn't enjoy it much, but I did. So, I stuck with it. Turns out the kit was for me, not him!
