Manufactured in 1917, converted to a carbine in 1925, refurbished in 1948.

There was a 44 Maltby on Gunboards today, lasted 2 hours, at $400 plus shipping. There is also a No5 Jungle Carbine there, and a Ishy 2A1, but both are priced at a premium.

Very nice!

I'd love to add a British made WW2 period No.4 to my collection, just a case of finding one turn up at a sensible price :)

Yeah, i'm in no real rush for one, in fact, this years gun has already been bought (i'm being limited on two factors, the better half and the lack of safe space :( )

Hopefully a nice one will turn up for reasonable money without having to chase it sometime next year :)

Remington Pattern 14 Enfield

These 303's used a lighter barrel than the 1917's and known to have fewer failure to feed issues than the SMLE. This one in US spec wood.

One my Holy Grail rifles I found on Gunbroker a couple of years ago. 1916 Lithgow No1 MKIII. Inside the first 46,600 made at Lithgow. Markings show it was issued to Victoria and Tasmania districts and completed an arsenal upgrade July 1945 where a 'Marksman' (heavy barrel) was installed. The crossed out numbers are dist recordings.

I loves me some Lee Enfield! Mine's a 1918 BSA and I've never learned what ALL the markings mean for sure. Those Brit's loved putting stamps on their guns.

So maybe this one is a bit of a stretch for a WWII rifle, but my approach is "designed during counts too!" So this and my Russian SKS-45 fit into my little collection.
An Egyptian contract FN49 in 8mm Mauser. :)

I think I'm really done now... really.

1917 Mauser Oberndorf Gewehr 98. Some interesting late war features: beech stock with finger grooves + takedown disc. Also noteworthy is the lack of an Imperial crown on the receiver, which is typical of commercially made Mausers. Both the German government and private companies mfg. G98's during WWI.

To my surprise this rifle shoots just as well as any of my WWII rifles. Purchased at the ARPC gun show in Albany last year for a very good price.

Pre black army 1918 colt 1911 shipped to Springfield Armory February 26th 1918. My dads, passed on to me, and will be passed down to the next generation.

this started life as an 7.92mm Mauser pattern rifle, designed by FN and used by the Yugo Republic before WW2
most literature says these were integrated into the German supply system during the War, but I doubt this, parts are not compatible with a 98
all numbers were scrubbed during the post war Soviet refurbishment program, so no history on it
does have a pre-war Walnut stock and a new Post war barrel
no collectors value, so I revealed the stock, shimmed the barrel, put in a Timney trigger and Zeiss Conquest scope in Leupold mount
had the bolt bent and scalloped to clear the scope
with Hornady Match ammo, it will shoot MOA at 100 yrds

While serving on a "Peace Keeping" tour in Bosnia , I saw many a Mauser , of various sorts , set up similar to this.
They worked well.
Neat looking rifle.

With all the Enfield talk about time I should show my herd! Have a Lithgow, longbranch, US property Savage and last the dreaded no5 carbine. Most were picked up at auctions in the area were most people look over the old mil guns. Works great for me even if the wife doesn't agree.

while serving in germany in the late '60s, I saw many German civilian hunting rifles set up like this

my motivation to build this was not WW2 sniper rifles, but Post War European hunting rifles

in '69, several of us GIs rented a home from the Forstmeister in Ramstein village

his personal Mauser 98 was very similar to this, down to the Zeiss scope and leather cheek rest

good memories from '69 and Ramstein Village

GEW 88 S, 88-05, 88-05-35 Turkish
First one is original German. The second two went to Turkey. The 1935 conversions were pretty extensive with new thicker barrels and no shroud, kar 98 sights with western numbers, new wood and 1893 Spañish bayo lug. The bolt takedown stock disk is non functional for this bolt.
