And in honor of the rest of the Veterans today, including my father, step-father, uncle, and two grandfathers, here is the rest from the Krag (albeit sporterized) to the M16a2 (of course semi-auto AR version). Pardon the missing M14 (or at least M1a).

I've got a little story about the Kar98K; it was a war trophy/bring back. My father shipped it home from Europe. He remembered finding tons of unissued Mauser rifles, all in the cosmoline, and this was one of them. It has never been fired, and as long as it is with me, never will be. Dad served in the 3rd Army under General Patton and was part of his relief of Bastogne. He passed in 2007; not a day goes by that I don't think of him.

I picked up a Springfield M1 Garand about 35 years ago at a gun show in Syracuse new York.
Here is a picture of a friend shooting it a while ago.

It was made in 1942, some one put a Winchester barrel.on it. It has a walnut stock and a birch fore end.

Years ago.my oldest son bought a Springfield M1 Garand as well.

I'm stealing this idea from orygun.
In a different thread he suggested a thread should be started on WWI & WWII rifles.
So...
Please feel free to post pictures of WWI & WWII rifles and related accoutrements.
( Web gear and leather , bayonets etc...)
Heck even period pictures of your relatives with the firearms they were issued would be neat to see.

Post 'em if you got 'em!

We had been talking about rifles of this period and a couple Dad had were what I was thinking of back then. I was able to easily get to my Jungle Carbine, but the No4 MK1T and the 03-A3 were buried.
Well, nearly a year later I've been forced to empty my safe just to move it a few feet as my wife did a much needed redo of our living room. The 03-A3 was in there and I got the best pics I could with my crappy phone. I found a lot more marks than I remembered. Any insight as to where this has been and what's happened to it would be appreciated. Dad bought it through the CMP about the time I was born (early 60's).

RA= Remington Arms
FJA = Frank J. Atwood... Chief Inspector at Remington Arms
The marks near the front of the trigger guard are many and various from the many and various Inspectors at Remington Arms...
The Circle P is a final proof...

Glad to see you here at "your" thread @orygun....:D

A member on the WaGun forum is just getting into reloading that lives close to me and came over Saturday night to see my set up. He also has a Springfield M1 Garand, our guns are only a couple hundred serial numbers apart. What's the chance of that happening.
All he had was 16 empty 30/06 cases that he brought over. Two were toast so I gave hime some cases to load. I went to kesselrings and picked up a hundred 150 grain and a hundred 168 grain bullets on the way to Greene's. He resized some cases, trimed some cases, primed some cases and loaded three clips of the 150 grain bullets and three clips of the 168 grain bullets to use in his gun.

I have a M1 carbine but it is a reproduction model I bought for $265 from cabelas used hun rack.
I need to get my 30 caliber dies set up.
That's a fun little gun to shoot. I'll get a picture of that & post it here when we get home tomorrow.

The P14 has new wood. It's not right yet. The stock is too smooth and I need a few more small parts. But the gun should be shootable as soon as I make a screw driver bit to install the cross bolt in the stock and redrill the buttplate hole (as honestly I screwed it up).

A lot of re-arsenal marks. RA is Raritan Arsenal in New Jersey, opened in 1918 and closed in 1964. It most likely went through Raritan post ww1. The date on the barrel will help. The proof mark, the circle 'P' indicates a WW2 or later stock. What is date on top of barrel near front sight? An image would help.

And all of a sudden I have two .303's. One from WWI and one from WWII. And only 20 rounds to my name. Going to have to finish another 03a3 project to sell to fund ammo...
