I have mixed feelings. Yes the event could have been handled way way better. Different environment. Also I have a problem with the demand that the new recruits follow the orders of President Trump. Not the legal orders of the commander in chief or all legal orders of all superiors.

Swearing fealty to to Trump makes me think of the oath the Nazi Party demanded of new and old soldiers .... to swear fealty and personal loyalty to Adolf Hitler.
The legal orders of The Commander In Chief sounds more like the USA. Just me. Others will disagree which is good.

Trump's name was never mentioned in the Oath. There is NO connection to the national socialist party, or hitler Poor Godwin's already been beaten to death; give him a break?

This is the hallway where my 87yo mother in law lives.

She and her (now deceased) husband came here from Europe - without breaking any laws, sneaking or lying - learned to speak fluent English, and did what was expected to become proud, contributing citizens. All of my relatives did/are doing a stint in the military, and I did 20 years myself. Walking through this hallway makes me proud to be a member of a cool club.

Here on NWFA, I previously used the name teflon97239 which reflected my Portland zip code. I got sick of what I call "The Disease" there and moved away, too busy/lazy to change the name. Portland was a beautiful city but is now largely controlled and abused by the undeserving.

Portland soccer fans booing military enlistees because their (the fans) crooked presidential candidate lost the election is a damned disgrace. Ongoing stuff like that prompted me to finally ask Joe (a really busy guy) to change my NWFA moniker to something more personal, and disassociate myself from the rampant douchebaggery that characterizes Portland today. Thanks Joe!

Yay Portland, you made Fox News again.
Whose decision was it anyway to swear in these patriots while surrounded by Communists? Maybe to show them that they don't have to go overseas anymore to fight the enemy?

I find this disgusting! I read this elsewhere and thought that I would comment here.

I find socialists and communists disgusting no matter WHO they support too.

I found the dirty, violent and disgusting HIPPIES and their ILK disgusting when they went after the MILITARY and the police in the 60's and on DISGUSTING too!

I found them much worse than disgusting but I am not allowed to put it down HERE so you can use your imagination.

I may not have agreed with some of the wars/conflicts in the last years (PNAC policies!) but I have always supported the MILITARY and the POLICE no matter what dirt bag or so so president was CIC in any specific YEAR and in ANY political party.

Old Lady Cate and my late husband was a Vietnam Veteran - enlisted NOT drafted. He served his country in the USN and in the Air NG. ALL over the world, stateside and he held a NON .gov job too.

My hat's off to all the enlistees. Can we be certain that the noise heard from the fans were actually "boos" and not "baas" from the bleating sheeple?
I know what you mean. Too many people (and sadly voters) are emotionally immature followers who get a giddy little thrill from hollering and acting out, with little/no idea what they think they're "resisting," or who protects the right for them to do that.

If you don't like what Portland is (or sadly has become), there is always Nashville and the state of Tennessee. We even have a coffeeshop here in Nashville called "The Portland Coffeeshop". Just in case you get a little homesick.. :s0062:

I sure miss the old Portland when it was just a mix of hippies, blue-collar folk and country people. Now, its a cesspool of San Francisco meets New York and lets wear some high end fake flannel shirts and fake ripped jeans we bought for $200 at the local botique in the Pearl District from an eco-friendly/vegan clothing shop. And, while we are at it, we will give free food, lodging, booze and heroin to all the homeless people because of how bad the capitalists have treated them. Then we will have the minimum wage raised to $20/hr, but make our city a sanctuary city so that the employers can easily hire illegals, since who can pay a dishwasher $20/hr and expect him to work 40-50 hr work week? The self-destructive cycle goes on and on.

I have to say Tennessee is a state that really respects both its soldiers and veterans.. Somebody would have got an a$$-whooping if they did that at Titans stadium. It's more patriotic than I could have imagined.
Ahhh.. Cascadia, how much I miss thee.. How much I wish I could rid ye of thy filth! :s0004:

I drove across your great (and very long) state once on my motorcycle once. It was hot, near triple digits and there was a lot of construction stopping things. Wound up at Graceland, which was pretty cool. :)

I agree with the assessment of Portland, and the cesspool it has become is indefensible.

But...I have traveled the midwest, far south, and the east coast pretty extensively over the last few years, and while it's easy for those folks to point fingers at us, a feller should not stick his head in the sand. Some folks have equal or worse problems in their own back yard. Even Nashville is rated as one of the most dangerous cities in America.

New Orleans was so filthy, so broken down, and so laden with street urchins, I will likely never return. It's nothing like the travel channels would portray.

But ironically, the east coast, which I believe is the birth place of everything that's become bad on the west coast, is far cleaner than any of the big west coast cities. Newark, (yuck New Jersey) was cleaner than Portland, with no hint of a a homeless population. Boston was spotless. Portland Maine and Bar Harbor, super snobby but also void of homeless camps.

While I was recently in Boston, they had their Straight Pride Parade. I suggested to a couple locals there that folks in Portland Oregon would not allow such a parade, and participants could be hurt. And I was told the cops and citizens in Boston would not stand for Antifa antics.

Cigars, I have only lived in Tennessee for 2 weeks now. It's hardly my state. My home state is Oregon, where I lived most of my life. I grew up in the small little hippie/logger/rancher/weirdo town of Ashland, Oregon and lived all over Oregon, including PDX for appx 15 years. My immediate family is all back in Oregon. Tennessee is a very beautiful state, but yeah, the weather can be hot as hell.. It has been in the high 90s all September, but man, it's been so sunny I am loving it after living a year in Colorado where you have dreadful hail and thunder storms every damn day after 1PM. As well, living in overcast Oregon most of my life, I prefer the sunshine and heat. I'm a sun person. Graceland is in Memphis, which is like in a whole other state, altogether. I'm hoping to do a trip to Memphis one of these days and see Graceland. I am near the Grand Ole' Opry.

Wayno, I agree with your assessment on West vs East. I have lived in Charlotte, NC and now Nashville, TN and I have to say I am shocked by how much cleaner cities are on this side of the country. Even Kansas City, with all its ghettos, crime and hoods was overall much cleaner in most of the city than Portland, Seattle or even Denver. The West Coast just seems to be putrifying and rotting due to the crazy radical liberal governments controlling them. The only clean West Coast city I can remember living in was Boise, Idaho. But it doesn't have the nutty commie governments controlling them (yet).

However, I will disagree with you on Nashville being dangerous. In fact, I feel much safer in Nashville than I do in Portland or Seattle. Don't just believe crime statistics you see. Most of Nashville is very safe, clean and you don't see all the garbage, junkies, homeless and weirdos roaming around like in Portland, Seattle, SF or Denver. In fact, Nashville is one of the cleanest cities I have seen and its pretty shocking. Most of Nashville is gentrifying and the once gritty run-down areas are now full of new high risers, upscale housing, restaurants and too many yuppies for my taste. But, the funny thing about crime statistics is they can be misleading. Whereas in Portland the crime comes to you and is everywhere, in Nashville you actually got to drive to the sketchy areas and find the crime. Nashville does have some slummy areas, but you would have no reason to go there. Most areas of Nashville I see girls walking alone by themselves at night, which I would think in Portland would be dangerous with all the crazy street people and loonies hanging around in every corner.

Don't believe what you hear, come and have a visit. Tennessee is going to be my home for a while, as I try to get back on my feet. I am partially disabled, in a dying business and trying to start my own online software business or find work online. I may end up needing work in Nashville and the economy is booming there. The fact TN has no state income tax and much lower cost of living (even in Nashville, which is getting expensive) is a great benefit. I found a smoking deal on a large 2 bed apartment out of the city ($1200/mo granite counter tops, etc only 20 min from downtown Nashville), yet in the country, for a price I'd pay almost $1800 for in Portland plus your 10% state tax. Also, cost nothing to register a car in TN.

You can also be sure TN will protect your gun rights more than other states. It's a state that loves guns and respects our country's military and veterans. I admire the patriotism of people here too. TN people are some of most patriotic Americans I have experienced anywhere.

After I gave my Oath....General Westmoreland "Pinned" on the rank of Pvt. E2 and PFC to several new Recruits...No one booed.
That was a pretty neat moment to be apart of.

I'm confused, General William Westmoreland retired in '72, I thought you started your military career in the '80's. :s0153:

Not naming the POTUS is far better than this sort of nonsence…...

%2C_Vereidigung_von_Reichswehr-Soldaten_auf_Hitler.jpg
Reichswehr soldiers swear the Hitler oath in 1934, with hands raised in the traditional schwurhand gesture

The Wehrmacht Oath of Loyalty to Adolf Hitler, 2 August 1934

"I swear to God this sacred oath
that to the Leader of the German Reich and people,
Adolf Hitler, supreme commander of the armed forces,
I shall render unconditional obedience and that as a brave soldier I shall at all times be prepared
to give my life for this oath."

Taken from Wikipedia.

But then......Americans of those sort, don't hardly know history. As for American History? Rrrright…...the 2nd A is actually about hunting.

Portland, Maine DID have some homeless camps started but the CITIZENS and the .gov folks REMOVED THEM - cleaned them up. I wrote about it here somewhere in the past and there are FILMS/DOCUMENTARIES on this (Maine.) and news articles too. The police were and are ALLOWED TO DO THEIR JOB there. I do not know what is there now but it WAS NOTHING LIKE WHAT YOU SEE ON THE NEWS ABOUT some of these western states! NO way! And parts of MT have this ALL OVER and there are squatters in the woods too. Public and private lands.

Side note:

HOW can the SYSTEM ALLOW TRANSIENTS to stay here and there and when you CAMP ON FEDERAL/STATE LAND - you are required to move your camp site after so many DAYS even if you are super remote?! WE have to abide by the laws of the land and there are even transients down HERE in this town and all over MT who stay on public land including county land and they LIVE THERE while they have NO facilities to poop/urinate and it is close to the river too?! SOME OF THEM HAVE THEIR OWN GENERATORS AND THIS WAS ON SEVERAL LOCAL NEWS STATTIONS TOO! THEY ARE ON FILM laughing at the taxpayers while they USE ALL OF THE FREE S! in this town and elsewhere and go back to their RENT FREE LAND and they collect a GOOD CHECK TOO. They are NOT nuts aka MENTALLY ILL (LOL) and they CLAIM THEY WANT TO LIVE THIS WAY - FREE WHILE ON YOUR DIME! THEY EVEN BUILD SHELTERS WHICH IS NOT ALLOWED BUT THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS CRAP! Yet, you try to do this in some parts of town on your own land and LOOK out for the zoning Nazi .gov freaks and VERY LIBERAL PEOPLE! They do what they want to do but you can't - LOL.

Back to Maine now:

I have been back and forth to Maine from my former GL state but not for years now. Not since my late husband died and since I moved out west.

I still have a very close friend who was born/raised in Maine. He has lived and worked in Portland, ME since college shy of a couple of years in AZ with his .gov job. He is retired now. He was born close to Auburn (?) if my memory serves me right and he lived in the country.

Lewistown/Augusta has many refugees from various countries including some from Africa. Somalia for sure. Legal and brought in VIA many of those FAMOUS CHURCH GROUPS - I shall refrain from listing all of the RELIGIONS here, United Nations deal, etc.

Some of the old Mainers that I know which used to be MANY people from all around the state said that some of the refugees and legal immigrants worked hard and flowed into American society but MANY OF THEM DID NOT and they still did not WORK and this was back in the LATE 90's. They had been there for 20 or so years as of the LATE 90'S and many of the MEN STILL DID NOT WORK or acquire any skills but they had BETTER BENNIES than most of the average to lower income born/raised MAINE people did and that is/was a fact.

Well, the TRANSIENTS especially the YOUNGER ONES WHO KNOW HOW TO WORK THE SYSTEM ON THE FREE S! .gov bennies are basically gypsies. They TRAVEL THE COUNTRY like the 'travelers' do in some cases in EUROPE and in the USA but they don't even paint or do a driveway with cheap supplies or cheat a customer.

They do CHEAT THE SYSTEM and are known for criminal acts too. Fact and they are like many of the welfare queens/kings but they TRAVEL instead and some of the females POP out babies too. MORE bennies.

The one if not more documentaries (PBS and on OTHER SHOWS.) on this showed where they go to and how they make a LIVING. Work? WTH is that to them?!

FREE laundry, free showers, free food, free shelter, free medical, etc. AND begging which should be OUTLAWED HERE but it is not like it IS back east. Back east, more places do NOT ALLOW panhandling like they do HERE. They know where to SQUAT on private and public land too!

Ellsworth, ME had some issues with roaming YOUNG and healthy adults behind some of their stores and around the woods but when the CITIZENS COMPLAINED - the .gov officials and the POLICE NIPPED IT IN THE BUD!

I did not see or hear about them really super CLOSE to and inside of Acadia National Park.

I do KNOW that they were NOT in the Navy section or close to it around Winter Harbor, Maine. (Acadia NP) That USN base (WH) became something else with ocean studies - I think. I was there with my late husband camping - late 90's. Maybe 2000 too? ALL around Maine and in Surry, ME too. Another close military buddy lived there.

Good input and thanks again.

I know some people who moved to TENN and they love it there.

I know or knew some gun guys/gals who were born and raised in TN or TENN from years ago.

They loved it there. One was an older Nam Vet and close to my late husband and me. He almost moved to NZ after Nam but saw the light and moved back to the USA - TN. He was very BIG in real estate and had a lot of land too.

Sure, some of the cities have crime but they have it in the rural areas a LOT too. But that does not make it on Fox or CNN a lot because the CITIES and suburbs get more attention.

RURAL areas have crime but since you have farm/ranch land and villages - smaller population - they do not always talk/write about the THEFT and especially the exploding DRUG issues - legal Rx addiction and illegal drug addiction.

Drunks, drugs and poverty INCLUDING WELFARE are all over this country!

Anyway, I have been to TN when I visited the Smokies in the 70's. I was VERY WELL TREATED there and all of the people were KIND and POLITE. They treated my husband and my friends well too. NOT just in some tourist situation either. So this YANKEE born/raised lady liked TN very much and all of the people that I know who MOVED THERE from years ago and one through another person here in MT likes it there too.

There ARE good and bad people NO matter where you live or move to ALL over this country and world.

The BAD thing is that the leeches and the anti freedom/anti gunners want to RUIN IT for every other person and they REFUSE to listen/read to any other opinion.

PLUS they want to TAX YOU TO DEATH!

I do NOT know IF this is true or not but I did READ that 40% of SS checks were sent out of the country for RETIRED FOLKS. So is it for only retired people or for other people? Beats me and I do not know if the NEWS was true or not!

MORE and more people are moving out of the country or WANT TO MOVE out of the country to so called CHEAPER COST OF LIVING COUNTRIES!

I have thought about being an EX Pat too.
