Source: Portland International Airport bag handler accused of stealing guns from passengers' luggage

A 26-year-old man who worked as a baggage handler at Portland International Airport was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stealing six guns checked in passengers' luggage.

Deshawn A. Kelly is alleged to have stolen from five people who checked their bags at the Portland airport between Aug. 28 and Sept. 18, court records show. All of them reported their handguns missing after getting their luggage back at their final destinations.

A Portland police detective placed replica guns in bags twice as bait to determine who was swiping the firearms and narrowed it down to Kelly, according to a probable cause affidavit. Investigators searched Kelly's home Tuesday and found five of the six guns reported missing, and Kelly admitted taking them, the affidavit said.

Court documents show he was convicted in July of attempted possession of a rented or leased motor vehicle, a felony under Oregon law barring him from having or handling guns.

Name him and shame him

How in the hell did a convict get a job behind TSA security in the first place... WTF? Airline and PDX are responsible for the stolen items!

So, lets get something strait here, You and I are required to Check our firearms in a TSA approved gun case that is supposed to be secure and inviolate and these firearms are supposed to be handled in a very specific manor by airline personal from the time the firearms are turned over to their care until they are returned ( for our security) and yet some how some P.O.S. Baggage Handler is allowed to handle these firearms, AND he was able to make off with them unchallenged? Where are the TSA agents who are supposed to search the baggage handlers? Something smells like rotting fish here!:mad::mad:

So, from what I understand from the news, they baited him, suspected him, but let him go back to work the next day, where he (allegedly:confused:) stole another case with two more guns. That's interesting.
Just so happens the last two he stole were high end customs and one had sentimental value to its owner (I know this last theft victim). Add to that, they are saying he obliterated serial numbers, so none of the owners may get their property back...
Always a fine line between careful police work and slow walking a case. This might have been pushing the line.
