I believe 7.62x25 is the winner. It is the total different story if you do reloading.
5.45 x 39 is my favorite economy round at the moment. I have a Cz52 and a tin of 7.62 x 25 too
I would say that the cheapest non-milsurp ammo I've found is 9mm. It's only a litttle more than 100 rounds of cci minimag.
I have to agree 5.45x39. 2160 cartridges run $238.00. That is approx. 11 cents a round (13 cents with shipping). Cheap 9mm is about 20 cents a round. You can get an AK-74 right now for $370 shipped so you are looking at ~$650 dollars for the gun and a stash of ammo.
+1. Not to mention that it's a very good round - very close to 5.56 NATO. Being based on the AK platform, the guns should be dependable too.
7.62x25; cheap and fun to shoot.
My cost to reload 45 acp is roughly 10 cts a round.

Found this on you tube the other day.
This has to be the most fun way to shoot 7.62x25.
You can shoot 5.45x39 7N6 for about the same price as high end 22lr like CCI ect. My 5.45x39-AR upper has already paid for it's self in what I've saved over .223 ammo, and it's a bunch more fun to shoot than .22lr.
