Who might use the services of the above mentioned medical professionals? Wifey is going to be needing one would like a recommendation. If any one uses a podiatrist in the NE PDX area and likes them, or DISLIKES, for whatever reason, we'd sure appreciate a name.

Thanx!

My wife's doctor is Natalie Mesnier. She had bunion surgery and Dr. Mesnier did a work of art on her.

I guess I should have been more specific....Wifey needs maintenance! Callouses and such taken care of. She has had THREE bunion surgeries! No, she's only got two legs, and one foot for each. :D One surgery went bad after 15 years or so, and it was redone. She has an issue with callouses and used to have a podiatrist that would charge her $25.00 for about 15 minutes or so work on her. That's been about 15 years ago though. She's got the insurance and I told her to do it!

If the Doctor reads this I may be sued. I have a pond in my yard and about every 3 or 4 years it needs cleaning. I grab an old pair of sneakers, put on a pair of shorts, wait for a nice day and go at it. Well I got a real nasty fungus for my efforts. I tried non-prescription meds but the fungus continued to grow. So I went on-line to find the nearest podiatrist my insurance covered. Twas Dr Manny Moe. I made an appointment. I almost left before he got started. We were BSing and he said when he traveled abroad he claimed to be Canadian because Americans were so hated. Shudda left right then and there. Next thing I know he is going to numb my feet so he can work on my toenails and such. He gave the shots BETWEEN my toes and laughed as he did it, saying I looked like a big tough guy. He said I needed 3 toenails removed. Not being a toe expert I told him to go ahead. He removed them and asked did I want all my remaining toenails removed and made the following joke: "If they ever grow back come see me and I'll do it again for free". I damn near crapped. I missed a few days work as I could not wear shoes. I went back two more times as his work got infected. I know very few people who need a podiatrist but I never miss an opportunity to bad mouth him. Dr Manny Moe, remember that name.

Is he the guy working out of the conex box under the Burnside Bridge? ;)

I've used two - mostly for plantar fascitis, but also a nail issue and some nail fungus years ago.

First was Dr. John Mozena at the Town Center Foot Clinic. He was okay, but always seemed to me to be in a rush to get to the next patient. His place was always busy. Not a bad guy, but his bedside manner didn't fit me as well as I like.

Second was Dr. Brandi Myers at Sellwood Podiatry, not far from Reed College. She helped me get some new shoe inserts for my PF and to help deal with a plantar wart. Much more laid back office. Dr. Myers was very easy to work with, in no rush and spent plenty of time going over my issue.

I could honestly recommend either one as Dr. Mozena is perfectly competent, just not my 'style'. Dr. Myers is my current choice.

Dr. Brandi Myers........That sounds pretty good. Thanks. :s0155: Wifey may appreciate a fem foot doc? Your current choice? Do you get regular maintenance? Hard to get an appointment?

Wifey has to wear semi-custom orthotics.

Thank you! Dr Mesnier is out of the Providence complex we use so that fits well. I'm curious if using a full on foot/ankle surgeon costs a lot more than using a podiatrist? I'm pretty sure it costs a bunch more for me to go to the hand specialist for the steroid injection in my wrist than it would to go to the general quack. Considering the pain of that needle I feel I prefer the true pro to be sticking it where it NEEDS to be!

My wife is a BSN and does "foot care" in the Kaiser system in Vancouver.
She also has a side business of her own where she travels to client's homes and does her work there.

In Oregon, if the client is under a doctor's care for diabetes or circulatory issues, her services must be authorized by said doctor (is how she explained it to me).

"BSN"? Excuse my ignorance please?

As I get older I don't look forward to the day I can't trim my toe nails.:( Never really though about it until the last couple of years when those simple things start getting a little more difficult. I bet your wife does a lot of people that just can't get "There" any more?

BSN = Bachelor of Science Nurse....one notch above RN.

Her discipline is "Foot Care Nurse"
Taking care of nails and callouses from a professional standpoint.
Not cosmetic, pedicure, nail polish type stuff that you would get in a salon.

So from my pea brain.....structural issues are taken care of by the doctors and the licensed foot care nurses take care of everything else.

Wifey was looking at the docs and the DPM that etrain suggested charges a $200.00 new patient fee.
Maybe that's the norm? Better have insurance if you're going to need foot care eh?

Your primary care physician should be able to refer you. Or maybe I missed something.

Podiatry and foot care are two separate disciplines.
One is way more expensive than the other.

;)

Edit:
If you want to save some cash, ask your doctor if a licensed Foot Care Nurse would be recommended for "maintenance" work.

I realize that, but figure with the average age HERE that there would be some first hand references.;)

We have Regence Blue Cross and the book of preferred providers doesn't list podiatrists.

That's what I was thinking....The difference between Podiatrist & foot Surgeon. $$$

She is my doc of choice currently. I don't have any issues that require regular visits at this point, so I only go to see her when I need to. Never had a problem getting in to see her. And yeah, your wife might appreciate a female doc. I really do like her bedside manner better than some other physicians (not just podiatrists), that is always a big factor for me.
