There are two places I go in Bellingham, because I don't want to pay for a range.

For a smaller area that's fine for pistols but doesnt have a ton of space for rifles, You can just go HP academy on Northshore, and its just a small walk up under he power lines to a bank where people shoot. I've heard its private property, but nothing is marked and its covered on shells, so I never worry about it. Just don't shoot directly under the power lines, as that can get a pretty big fine.

As far as rifle shooting, there is a great quarry out Mt Baker Highway that's got plenty of space. I'm on my phone and don't want to wrestle with Google maps, but here's the gist of it. Go down Mt Baker Hwy until Mosquito Lake Dr, then take a right. Go just down past the firestation and turn left on North fork. Just follow that until it turns into gravel, then keep on following it until you get to the quarry on your left.

If you are ever in the area, message me and I can give better instructions.

Hate the idea of a "range fee" in general.

God forbid you guys have to pay a range fee.

If I want to go to a range to do something that I can only do at a range, I'm fine with it. If I just want to go shoot for a few hours with friends, I don't know why I should have to pay just to go shoot.

Which part? I mean, I know to avoid the powerlines, but if you're saying it's illegal to be up there at all honestly I'm not terribly concerned. Nobody has ever bothered us about it, nothing is posted, and I know I'm not the only one who goes up there.

Yes, secluded. We're well up away from the road and any houses that are around. If there are houses tucked up away as you mention, nobody has ever come and asked anyone to stop, so I'm assuming they don't mind or likely shoot there as well.

Are you talking about the trail with the eco blocks on either side With massive ruts. I used to wheel up there also but haven't been up that trail in years. N fork is easy to find but is messy and crowded when the weather is nice.

I don't know about eco blocks, but certainly huge ruts in the trail. I think they put them in to stop people taking their trucks up there and tearing up the roads. Probably because they liked to keep the spot nice for shooting ;)

Thread resurrection for 2014 ;)

Hey I plan on taking a drive up towards Hamilton, Medford rd area to do some shooting at that gravel-pit. Or might drive a little extra to find a better place... Will bring a garbage-bag with and clean up after myself and then some probably.

I guess I might need a discover-pass now I suppose? Kind of annoying, even many of the places I go trail-riding with my bike need a pass. But I usually find good parking places and just bike a little extra to not worry about it... Just haven't gotten around to getting one yet, and honestly don't feel like I need it. Every time I go out on trails in any park I always pick up trash, even clear fallen-trees quite often... So now I need to pay a fee to be outdoors and walk down a dirt-trail? Good old US of A getting more and more free every year huh...

North Fork Pit, Saturday 1/25/14
Today was beautiful. No fog & plenty of sunshine. I am hoping for similar weather tomorrow. I am sure there will be a lot of folks going to the gun show in Lynden, but I will be taking my son shooting.

If anyone is interested in joining us, we will be at the Chevron gas station at the Nooksack Casino at 10am. If you're not sure where the pit is, you can follow us from there. You will need a Discovery Pass. If you want to skip the meet-up, we should be to the pit no later than 10:30. We will be in a silver Durango.

I would like to go, but a little strapped on cash ATM. Truck battery died kinda unexpectedly = no ride; also waiting on the VA to pay me back for tuition = too little mula to be going out blasting... Oh well, probably in another few weeks...

Bummer, KillerBD...... If you were closer, I'd give you a ride. I know this was short notice, but who expects this kind of weather in January. Another beautiful day, so were going as planned. Loading up now.

Well went and checked out the area above Hamilton today. ((Didn't think to get a GPS coordinate)
over all a good sight and enjoyed myself quite well. Ran about 1000 rounds today in mix calibe and was able to collect even more brass then I shot. Lots of room to allow many groups.
think I found exactly what I was hopeing for.
Thank you all above for the information.

Great way to spend the day for sure!
Ger... When are you going out there again? I might be down to plink some rounds...
