Akoholic, do you have the GPS coordinates of where you did your shooting? Is there a decent backstop in the area?? If you can, please PM me, because I am going to see if I can look for some outdoor areas to go shooting. I just recently moved to Bellingham.. I am planning on joining Custer, but I may only be in Bham for the Summer, before moving to Seattle. I am also going to join Paul Bunyan, since I will need a club when I am down in Sea-Tac and most of the clubs are filled up.

Been going there for years and it is AWESOME. Tons of cool and safe people and lots of areas to choose from so no crowding or waiting. A bit of a trek, but well worth it.

Would even consider taking some people if they'd be willing to chip in for some gas $$$. Hope this helps!

I'd be interested in going with you sometime; glad to help with gas. Only thing I wonder about is you mentioning lots of areas to choose from. Good backdrops? I don't want to meet up with some stray bullets from people shooting in another area.

Yep, plenty of backdrops/burrs and trees that open up to nothing. Only a single road, so you shoot either to the left or the right and worry free of stray bullets.

Sorry 4Freedom, but I do not have gps coordinates.... Come to think of it, I don't even think I own a gps lol.

Meeting up is fine by me. I'll Pm you guys next time I make the trek (roughly 45min up and 30min down from Sunset).

Hey all, new to Washington and was wondering if the info on Sedro was still current? Is it still open?

Thanks,
Bang

Yes, the rock pit east of Sedro is still open. One thing has changed; you now require a Discover pass to drive there... legally. Several of my fellow sailors got $100 tickets several weeks ago because no one was aware of this rule. A discover pass is available at any sporting goods store. It is designed for allowing people entrance into state parks in Washington.

The directions on how to get there are still messed up. You have to go through the horse camp to get there. Luckily i ran into some other shooters that were going up there ang I followed them in. Nice spot but way too much junk left up there. But then again its no different than any other shooting spots I've been too. Seems like the shooter's blame everyone else for the garbage, and the wheeler's blame everyone else and so on. Down in Arizona I can't tell you how many clean ups I've been too only to have the place looking like bubblegum again within a couple of weeks. After I got cancer I just gave up caring.

The directions are slightly incorrectly written.
What I wrote:
> Stay left as the road splits... If you reach a large gravel parking lot used for horse trailers you have gone too far.
I meant:
> Stay left as the road splits inside of a large gravel parking lot used for horse trailers. If you reach the horse training facility to the right, you have gone too far.

Anyone willing to share any outdoor areas near Anacortes, Ferndale, Bellingham, Sedro, etc?? I Don't really know of anywhere around here that I wouldn't have to pay a range Fee. Thanks!

I too am looking for a place to plink and have my wife get in some shooting in a relaxed but safe environment. Also willing to meet up and go out somewhere in Skagit. I live near Fidalgo.

My wife and I go to the north fork gravel pit near Demming, but are also looking for more places to plink. Wouldn't mind going for a bit of a drive if anyone ends up finding some other places that don't take 2 hours just to get to. Hate the idea of a "range fee" in general.

Also we would both like to try out some other calibers, and if there are any couples who like to shoot, maybe we could arrange a meeting and try each others. (Guns not wives)

How far east of Sedro???...and seriously, they ticketed USN sailors. Jeeez, a decade ago most people would have bought em a beer. This is really becoming a FUBAR state.

I know I'm bringing up an old thread, but I go to the North Fork gravel pit quite often. If anyone is interested in going out that way on a nice weekend, I'm down. If you're come from a ways away, I can meet you at the gas station at the Nooksack Casino on Mt. Baker HWY (542). You can follow me the rest of the way. You will need a Discovery Pass up there. There is 2-4 miles of gravel road, but 4x4 is not required.

I bring a canopy, chairs, table, rifle rack and a garbage can. I pick up more than my mess and usually pick up more than just my brass. Although there are a couple of local brass hunters that frequent that place.

This is a two level pit with 360 degrees of berm with the exception of the entrance/exit road. Shoot me a PM and we can set up a time to meet.

That's why I always bring the canopy. It can start off nice and change quickly. I was up there last weekend, nice but windy. When the weather is like this, I'm just waiting for a break in the rain to head out.

I posted in this thread over a year ago when I was living in B'Ham for the summer. Now, I live in the Seattle area, but I have been considering maybe moving back to the area and want to look into shooting areas out in the forests, because the Custer and Plantation ranges are too restrictive on what I want to do. I don't mind driving even an hour or so out, because I probably will only be shooting 3-4 times a month.

Ian, I would be interested in learning more about the area you go shooting. I'm debating about relocating back to B'Ham or some place in the surrounding area.
