Ive recently been given a can of IMR 4227, DuPont owned rectangular metal can. Its about half full, made some loads less than current load books suggest because ive read it has been recently changed. They worked great just unburnt powder in the casing. I'm guessing the can is from the 80's? So anyone with those old books please provide any 38/357, .223/.308 load info. I ask for rifle because I heard the old stuff was good in rifle loads. Any info on the stuff would be appreciated as well.
Thanks guys! Still new to loading, all my stuff and what I can get a hold of is accurate for the last 10 years or so.

My Lyman 46th Manual (printed Sept 1989) shows some for 357 and for a couple of cast bullets in the 308. What weights of bullets would you use?

Thanks Orygun, for .357 I've got almost every jacketed weight. But more interested in 125, and 158g loads. As for .308, no cast bullets in the cabinet, all speer/nosler. What weight does it list for.308?

4227 is too fast for most rifle cartridges, it works well in low-volume rifle-like calibers such as .30 carbine, and magnum loads of .357.

My Lyman 45th Edition Manual copyright 1970 does not list any .308 loads for jacketed or cast bullets with IMR4227.

For .357 magnum it lists a 158gr cast bullet with gas check (bullet #358156 with #2 alloy or bullet#358311) and lists IMR4227. Suggested starting grains 9.5gr/velocity 725fps, max grains 15.0gr/1194fps. Remington cases, Remington 5 1/2 primers, S&W Model 27 18 3/4" twist 5" bbl

    For .38 special it lists a 158gr cast bullet (#358311 #2 alloy or bullet #358156 w/gas check) and lists IMR4227. Suggested starting grains 7.0gr/504fps, max grains 9.5gr/755fps. Remington cases, Remington 1 1/2 primers, S&W Model 14 18.75" twist 6"bbl
